The point is that if the turbo is too warm when the oil that stays on the bearings during shut down is burned up and leaves carbon deposits. Next time the engine is turned on these deposits make a turn and Lea e the bearing while making a tiny mark. This repeated several times in months/years reduces the life of the turbo.
So is it not a good idea to constantly circulate the oil using a turbo timer as the turbo cools?

Im not defending a turbo-timer here, i dont have one and dont intend to, I'm just curious as to the potential benefits....

Turbo timers are only any use if you drive you car hard and then just switch off the engine , personally I never do this ,I always drive off boost the last few miles to avoid high temp shut down.
Switching off straight away after prolonged boost is very bad and although our cars have an after run pump fitted it is always going to end up with the chance of carbonizing some oil in the turbo, once this happens the next time you start up this abrasive deposit will take its toll on you turbo bearings .
Tests have been carried out on turbochargers with after run systems like ours fitted and it was found that allowing the turbo to cool by off boost running even for only 2 minutes is enough to double the life of a turbo .

Guess I'll be okay then - the number of speed bumps down my road makes for a mandatory cooldown mile.

Removing heat from the bearing housing is why the chance of any oil carbonisation is greatly reduced by continuing to pump water around after shutdown.

You could wire that greddy gizmo onto an s2 but it ain't as easy as their noddy wiring diagram would suggest. The ACC signal is the least of concern there. Let me just say that you would also need to bypass security wiring so that the ECU stays powered up after you remove the key and lock the car.

Presumably these greedy boxes are smart enough to monitor the VSS to shutdown the engine if some scallywag throws a brick thru your window and attempts to drive the keyless car away - maybe just far enough where they can steal it properly or drive onto a trailer. They are a waste of money IMHO.

Waste of money? but quite cool though And he didn't pay for it I'd say the turbo needs all the help it can get. Its obviously oil and water cooled on our cars, the oil takes a lot of heat away with it while driving and the water helps after shut down to stop carbon build up from the stationary oil getting cooked.

I've been driving off boost the last mile since I got mu first quattro sometime in the early 80s, I'd completely forgotten why

The Acc wire is the thin red one on the back of the ignition switch. Stays powered up when the engine is switched of and goes off when the key is removed

I had a feature on my Clifford security on my 300zx that you could keep the engine running for 2 mins, meanwhile leaving and locking the vehicle, if the alarm was triggered in that time it shut the engine down and armed the immobiliser. After 2 minutes it did that same. your average turbo timer is pretty useless in this respect.
As said unless you are the kind of retard that turns your car off after running at high temperatures, they are useless and a Max Power gimmick mod IMVHO.

Right, I've got the GReddy turbo timer wired up. It powers up and seems to be working but won't countdown. As soon the ignition is turned off, power to the turbo timer is lost and the engine cuts out. I've got the Red, Green, Blue, Brown and Black wires on turbo timer connected up to 12v constant, Ignition ON, Accessory (thin red wire), handbrake and chassis ground respectively.

All the connections seem good. Any ideas how I can maintain the accessory power supply to the turbo timer with the key in the off position?

Accessory will have power in the off position but not when you remove the key, if you want power with the key out just use a constant feed.
