    AAN Auto Crankshaft question

We've got the engine from an S6 AAN Auto and we're mating it up onto an 016 manual gearbox. But, the crank has a 'plug' - (or Socket - as ETKA puts it), where the needle roller bearing should sit and the gearbox input shaft locates. Has anyone had this situation and how do we remove said plug?

I have got the same situation when auto to manual swap was done. That "plug" can be removed from the crank. It seems one piece with the crank but it is not.Cut some slices with thin absasive disc and with a hamer you'll get it out.

I will be in the same situation also come the weekend. Do we need to fit a needle bearing when this 'plug' has been removed?

Yes, and you also need a different flywheel.

Thank you folk... That's great. It's [18] on the ETKA Screen...

Engineering wise, anybody any idea why it's used. Nothing mates up to it and it's only an interference fit. They could have left the crank end without it couldn't they?

But if they didn't put that bushing in there, the "hole" would fill up with crud and you would have to clean it out before installing the standard transmission pilot bearing.

And then you would whinge about that

How did you get it out? I was thinking drill a 5mm hole, tap it M6 and use a bolt, washer and socket to pull it out.

Pasdogban's approach... Carefully cut away at it until it was weakened, then used a hacksaw blade inside to further reduce it's strength... Then a couple of well positioned, engineering 'Taps' with a Cold Chisel and ****** great hammer, and, hay-presto

Seriously though, it's actually made of quite a soft metal, thank goodness, so whilst a right PITA, it's not desperate engineering required.

It's a spigot bearing to support the input shaft of the auto box. On manual boxs they sit in the Flywheel. Auto boxs they can't fit in the converter and the flex plate is too thin so they fit them in the end of the crank. Run an auto box without it and you will get input shaft bearing failure.

I was gonna say it looks a lot more than just something to keep the crap out of the hole,we sliced the front of it a few times and the chiselled/dremelled the rest of it out

Had a plug in the crank of my abz which was originally an auto. I just got a. Tap which fit and ran it through which pushed it out. Was an inch i think. Its made of bronze so pretty easy to tap.
