    Engine Builder/Machinist Required.

I've been told by my garage working on one of my non Audi cars that my block is scrap, but I'm having difficulty in getting an engineering report for the block to find what's wrong with it. I've seen it with my own eyes and can't see anything startlingly obvious. I'm used to working on engines that are a lot bigger than car ones, so it's usually pretty easy to see when there is something wrong

I'm looking to take my block somewhere that might be able to give me a second opinion before I turn it into a coffee table.

I know it's non Audi, but there are plenty of cars having proper engineering carried out on them here, so if anyone has any recommendations, it'd be much appreciated.

    Distance is not an issue.

    Thanks in advance!

        Ah old E30 engine.

Would it just not be worth sourcing another block rather than spend out on having this one checked or have the company doing the work on it tried to bill you for something ?

I can ask someone tomorrow or you can try Ivor Searle in Soham, they specialise in recon engines and have a lot of trick machinery down there.

I've come up against these thoughts already, but the prices are going skywards for these engines unfortunately. I can get one from BMW off the shelf for approx £2200 + the dreaded VAT which I don't think is a bad deal to be fair, but I'd rather see if anything can be done for mine.

Second hand engines start at approx £2500 (needing a rebuild) and go on to infinity. I imagine that this will be the route that I will have to take in the end, but I would like to see if my block is able to be salvaged.

          Thanks

They have gone up a fair bit then ! one on ebay right now though

I know someone who builds a few of these for race cars, a couple are or atleast have done the Britcar and are pushing out some big numbers, IF I could get upto see him he may have a spare block or atleast be able to advise what to do with yours, there is also a company in Huntingdon that race a couple of M3's and I believe their engine builder is reasonably local ( not the same guy I know ) a friend who does parts deliveries for BMW knows of them as he has a Cecotto so I'll drop him a text and see what he knows.

            The racer :

            I do like the old M3's !

Engine services, Loanhead just outside Edinburgh. http://www.engineservicesandcomponents.com/

I know of a guy close to Edinburgh who breaks BMWs. I need to contact him myself anyway so will ask if it is ok to pass his number on for future reference for you.

Thanks, that would be great. The engine builder that my engine has been to is based near Milton Keynes I believe, as that is where the car was being worked on. I never spoke to the guy directly as the workshop that have the car outsourced the work to him, but I believe he builds their race engines.

Yeah, I love them too, apart from mine, which has done nothing but cost money and heartache since I got it. It'll all be worth it in the end

In it's current 'heartless and stripped' state:

Thanks, that would be great, it's mainly just for a second opinion as it's a costly bit of metal and I'm a tight Jock.

Yes, but unfortunately it's not mine, or even my garage (can but wish though). It's stripped in preparation for being turned into a race car = lots of monies
