    Stroker Build Question

While working today I wondered what the height difference was between the 5 pot short block (aby / adu etc) and the taller TDI block (AAT / AEL) and how does it sit in the b4 enginebay, is the sump very close to the ground or does it use taller engine mounts to compensate?

Also how much heavier is the stroker engine than the normal engine?

I did a quick search and didn't find the answers

The block is 16mm taller and all the extra height is at the top of the block so no problems with the sump. Mine clears the bonnet, just, by removing the trim at the edge of the sound proofing. The problems arise when you fit a reverse inlet manifold, then you have to start chopping the bonnet. Not sure on the weight but it's not a lot extra.

16mm is nothing, do you use the diesel sump or the petrol sump? I'm trying to imagine the whole lot assembled to satisfy my own mind.

I wrongly assumed the diesel block would be a lot heavier and was going to ask about suspension setups etc. I suppose even if it was 100kg it wouldn't be a lot. Thanks Andy

block is a couple of kg heavier and the crank itself is 2kg heavier.

100kg? another stroker myth busted see RWD19T post and Andy is correct the main problem comes when you have a reverse manifold like me

Also the block doesn't sit exactly vertical so although it is 16.5mm higher in reality it's not that much once sat in the engine bay.

All mounting points on the block are the same as the petrol for engine mounts etc

Which is the better starting point for a stroker? AAT, AEL or doesn't it matter?

                  Cheers

AAT, AEL you have to sort the crank sensor see AndyP thread

I've just remembered that I had to space my engine mounts down by 5mm to get clearance on the bonnet.

I didn't do anything there but had to make some space on the bonnet damping.

Also the AAT If I recall correctly doesn't have the oil squirters for the pistons (remember that pisobiker noted it somewhere).

                        Andy,

How did you spaced the mounts?

Myth, AAT and AEL both have squirters part number 069 103 157 D

The US eurovan doesn't have them however
