What turbo to put in the RS2?

My blue RS2 is in need of tlc.. a lot. The last couple of years it's been on the bottom of the to-do list due to the Sport Quattro project. With the SQ now "finished" the RS2 gets his well deserved attention.

It'll be resprayed soon, and I want to overhaul the engine. It will also receive new SPM rods wich are laying on the shelf for some time now for this car.

I want to replace the RS2 turbo with an uprated item, but I want to keep the original airbox and overall oem look in the engine bay. Power wise i'd be happy with /400 420'ish hp. Also a quicker spoolup would be nice.
Will probably fit a Wagner IC, to keep the stock look there aswell...

Without saying, all the other bits will be uprated to suit this turbo/setup... 044 pump, injectors, probably vems ecu etc etc

What turbo would be best for me? CT has some nice ones from what I've seen....

    Like to hear your thoughts.

Yep, Hoffer76 all the way. Gets my vote.

Send Rich a PM, aka Hoffer76 on the forum. Will try to get a dyno result up online soon as I am running this setup.

        It rocks!!

This seems to be a popular question at the moment!

I guess if you are happy to change oil and coolant lines and go with a Garrett then the CT seem to be a popular choice. If it's anything like the GT3071 i had you're looking at 420hp with very quick spooling and lots of boost from 3k upwards... If you're being strict with OEM-ness then keeping with the KKK is a difficult choice.

I am in the KKK boat; I am planning on fitting a stock rebuilt turbo and open to any 'improvements' that can be made with a bit of newer technology. Hoffer's ~400hp hybrid looks very interesting.

Lloyd - I didn't realise you had made the upgrade, was it to replace the stock turbo and if so was it remapped? I would be very interested to hear how it compares in terms of when the power comes in and how it's delivered.

K26/K27 will have ~300 rpm slower peak boost than stock turbo, but you can get close to 420 hp with it. Logs show 1.7 bar at 4200 rpm in 3rd gear.
I would go for HX35 Super.
Spool should be comparable to stock turbo, but power 450hp+.

                      Depends on mapping.
                      Best to upgrade rods.
Any level above RS2 it is good to upgrade the rods to be safe even if something goes wrong.
Then again, with good mapping, it should be fine on stock rods too - if nothing goes wrong

Either way, I feel the HX35 is a much better choice than '80s technology.
Very reliable, oil- and watercooled and flows much better than the old turbos.

What I can say is:Hoffer setup is plug and play.Chage turbo, chips, injectors and thats it in rs2 case.Hith other turbo you gona need some changes like oil pipes ,block water pipes from old turbo and last, remap wich need to be made on rollers which involves again spendings.Well this is just my opinion:Hybrids turbos made by hoffer are with 360 so is not old technology

I keep hearing so much about this setup, but I have not seen a single plot.
Boost vs AFR vs RPM at least.

Also, if it's actually above 400hp, I don't see the stock MAF lasting long.
Plus, RS2 injectors max out at around 400hp.

                          Something does not add up.
On K26/K27 hybrid, at 6600 RPM, 1.6 bar boost, stock head, 440cc Ford Motorsport injectors are at 89% duty.
396cc Porsche Orange injectors were maxed.

The injectors are not rs2, are 440cc delphi.

                              Okay, so... turbo and injectors.
                              And what about the MAF?
This car on which the logs I have are taken was eating the MAF's for breakfast.
