    Boost leak?

    Hi guys
Whats the easiest way to determine if i have a boost leak on my aby avant?
When i accelerate hard the engine sounds normal up to 3000rpm give or take, then after it completely changes tone and becomes a deep throb like when leaving your window down on a motorway, is this normal? the car doesnt seem to accerlerate as well.....
Sorry if this seems stupid but i have no idea,
    Cheers
    Ryan

Easiest way is to fit a boost gauge to c wot it's boosting to or to try using a boost leak test kit from Andy p on here. Welcome to my world. Boost leak is a real pita!

Aby or 3b? Mapped or not? There is a thread on here yesterday saying those. Have a quick search on yesterdays posts.

Try cleaning the maf connector. And pull the codes.

I have a similar issue with mine, I have a boost gauge fitted but it works of the turbo so would it show any leaks further around the system? Im still hitting 1.5 bar (upgraded turbo and map) My intercooler has taken a knock after a d**k reversed into my car a while back so have a new, bigger one including boost pipes waiting for me to collect so fingers crossed that fixes the problem.

With an MTM chipped ABY you should see 1.4 bar when you boot it from low revs, that will tail off tho as the revs increase.

Mine was mapped by Hoffer76 who also supplied me with the hybrid turbo. Mapped to 1.5 which it hits happilly but the power/accelleration tails off suggesting a leak from somewhere.

                      Pull codes and pressurize intake.
If you don't know how to do any of this, bring it to someone who knows.

Just found out a mate of a mate has a VagCom so will take it over there soon. Just one of many issues I have to solve. Suppose its to be expected when buying a car that didnt get used much (500 miles in a year) then using as a daily driver. Shock to the poor old girls system. lol

Dobby I think it is supposed to tail off and go down in pressure?

Homefried ones hit 1.4 and then by the time you are in the red it will read 0.8 or 0.9 so yours should be the same I think. Someone correct me if im wrong.

                            Sorry I wasnt very clear.
It hits 1.5 at low revs on hard acceleration but the it drops off before hitting high revs. Boost gauge still reads fine but like I said it has been plumbed in on the Turbo vac hose so doesnt read boost after this point if that makes sence?

Before I had this problem the boost behaved as it should. High boost at low revs, tailing off as you reach the higher revs.

K24-7000 does not boost 0.9 to redline.
                              More like 0.7.
Looking at boost gauges is not accurate, electronic sensors/logs are better.
