chipping and what does the chip control??

hey guys i was just wondering exactly what the chip in the ecu controles? is it just air and fuel mix or is thier more to it? i know their is a map sensor also to consider in the ecu

    also. . .

if you fitted a rs2's chip in a standard s2 (lets say a superchips chip) what would happen to the s2, would it not run? and what would it take to make it run (injectors, maf sensor etc???)

cos where im coming from is... i have a k24 hybrid giving me similar bhp to a rs2 but without injectors and maf etc and i was wondering if a rs2 superchip would work on my car if i fit the injectors and maf etc, or would i still need the other things doing? as i know the cam maybe different would these things make a difference?

or should i simply go see MRC Tuning and tell them what the car has had done to it and see what the say? lol

It's never a bad idea to ask an expert for advice.

Firstly it's chips not chip, they control everything fuel timing boost , etc.

If you fitted RS2 chips to a standard S2 you would be in a world of trouble , the RS2 injectors are bigger and so using the RS2 chips with S2 injectors would mean the ecu would under fuel .

The MAP sensor in the RS2 ECU is also different to the S2 to measure the higher manifold pressure (boost) . The RS2 chips are programmed to work with this so this would also be all wrong .

Basically this is an absolute NO !

IF you want to run RS2 chips then you need RS2 injectors , turbo , exhaust manifold , fuel pump upgrade, larger down pipe/ exhaust etc.

The MAF is the same electronically anyway so could be used in a Proper RS2 set up , the RS2 MAF has a little less restriction then The S2 as it does not have gauze screens , but apart from that is the same.

In short go to MRC and have it mapped properly , or get the RS2 stuff and have your ECU sorted by someone who knows what they are doing.

If you fit an RS2 superchip, then there is only one chip not two. Superchips alter the fuel and ignition chip and disable the boost control chip, boost is then controlled by a stronger spring. A lot of people don't like that idea, but then lots of people have run with them reliabley for years, it's up to you. Not sure you can just drop RS2 chips into an S2 ECU though.

It does not matter , how can you fit a chip or chips meant for an RS2 when you have an S2 MAP sensor and S2 injectors . It just won't work period !

Since MAP is only used for boost control that makes no odds it's only the fuelling you would have to worry about if it's running wastegate boost control. However this idea is pretty insane, you need the car mapping.

What is it about people and generic chips that are not designed for their setup?

Lack of education on the subject and years of brainwashing from tuners, who want to just make money on a random generic chips without doing any work.

Apart from 100% standard starting point i would assume that a generic chip would not get you the optimum performance from any vehicle. I would have thought MRC is the best bet.
Does anybody know what prices they charge for a custom map? like if you fitted exhaust, intercooler, cams etc?

You don't need to remap Motronic for a bigger intercooler provided your chips are good.
It automatically adjusts timing and fuelling based on IAT, so if your current setup is set up right and the IAT boost compensation disabled or reversed, then by fitting a bigger intercooler and getting lower IAT's you'll gain power as the ECU will advance the timing.
As for cams and exhaust - that'll get taken into account by the MAF...

Of course it'll be possible to get a bit extra out of it by custom mapping or a LOT extra, if your car is not properly mapped in the first place.

im currently thinkin of tryin a "emerald k3 management system" as my mate has one on his pug 205 t16 and easy to keep mapping as i do more to the car ;-)

Not sure if that will work with an Audi trigger and if it will work on a 5 cylinder car.
Find that out first before buying.

They have done an audi Quattro running 20v turbo Will Holman's although that was a one off ecu in ppc magazine

Not saying it can't be done, but not sure if it can run sequential injection and ignition on I5 and how many sensors will be required to be swapped. That's all I am saying.
Might be just much easier to buy a PnP VEMS when going the standalone route, and save all the hassle.

Last time I looked at emerald, I really liked at as I have great respect for it's creator - it didn't handle direct ignition - therefore RR/3B only. That may have changed though.
