This question just came to me while reading Lou's thread. So anybody tell me how the system decides where the knock is?
2 knock sensors, 5 cylinders how does that work then?

It knows what cylinder is on its compression stroke.
I'm not even sure if motronic does per cylinder timing retard anyway, it may just retard the timing for all cylinders if it hears knock. I'm sure someone will confirm if it has per cylinder retard or not but if it does like I said above.Comment

not at the moment but I might upgrade to a whole house system in the future
Is it something that can be logged on newer cars? By the time you're finished with motronic bosch wouldn't even recognise it
What is LDR if you don't mind?

Yes, you can log this on ME7.1 for example with ECUx.
LDR software is in 87C257 chip. Probably comes from the german word "lader" (charger).Comment

Tis good fun winding back the electrics from the car loom to where it interacts with the various chips inside the ECU... so that dmitri can focus on the right part of the matrix in the search of knock logging, hidden comms routines and such like. The more we learn about the complexity inside that 20yr old factory ECU the more amazing it is to think how advanced it was in its day - and still very capable today for silly power levels today as we slowly unravel the machine and discover how to do hitherto unmentionable things.Paul Nugent
