    Turbo removal

Hi guys, Ive been struggling this weekend to get my broken turbo off, I have basically stripped everything back so I only need to unbolt it from the exhaust. Any tips or methods ho to do this as from what I can see its gonna be a nightmare to get to the nuts etc.

If someone has any advice then please let me know, I havent got my skin on my nuckles left. lol

You need stubby spanners and S spanners, they save a lot of time and make it not to hard a job as long as the nuts are ok.

You know i just fought with this a few hours ago, that 15mm nut is a nightmare. I managed to get it off with a regular ring spanner by removing the turbo to manifold bolts and pulling the turbo and downpipe as far out as you can against the chassis rail. Then there is just enough room to get a regular 15mm ring spanner onto it pointing at the engine block, feed a socket set extension bar in from above resting on the spanner, and smack it will a big hammer. Its a very tight fit for the ring spanner around the nut, of the three 15mm spanners i had only one would fit onto it. Failing that the best option as many have done is to cut/grind a spanner until it fits.

          If in doubt, disassemble car.

I have just ordered so s-spanners and some stubbies so hopefully they will be here tomorrow so I can have another go. I was thinking about taking the downpipe off and wiggling the whole lot forward to get a bit more space. Dont wanna be taking the whole lot out.

My new Hybrid Turbo should be ready to go one Thursday so hopefully I'll have it all off by then.

pretty sure you will just have to loosen the six bolts at the bottom of the down pipe to give you enough space to remove the turbo. i have a spanner that is cut down in size and i tap it with a hammer to undo the little fecker at the bottom.

6 bolts? Almost got the turbo out today just waiting for my s-spanners to turn up so I can the last ****** off. need to take the downpipe off so that one of the bolts will get off the stud I think unless someone knows a better way of doing it.

Hopefully get my shinny new hybrid from Hoffer76 in the next few days along with a re-worked ecu, should be fun! Just hope I dont have many more problems anytime soon.

Are you taking about the nut holding the turbo to manifold next to the infamous 15mm downpipe nut? If you unbolt the downpipe from the rest of the exhaust system you can slide the turbo/downpipe away from the car to get that nut off. Also makes access to the 15mm downpipe nut a bit easier.
