New 12v batt, old immo problem...

    Hello everyone

I still have my 2.8CQ, it is 2 years now since the gearbox failed but i can not bear to let the car go for scrap or be stripped bare. working now for johnson controls company car (zafira-)

    So.
Finally got a new 12V, but still have the car-no-start problem. mine is MY95, and has the dealer fitted dongle plug-in immo along the steering column.

the car will not turn over on the key, though i am sure the ign immo (key one ) is ok, as the dash light goes off. i get all the fuel pump whirring noises.

(if i remember) the procedure is:1) ign on..(beep), .2) put in (take out) immo dongle...(.more beeps), 3) turn key and car starts.

now, when i '2' put in the dongle, i am not getting any further beeps , and nothing happens to turn over the car.

i just want to start my car!

i live very close to http://www.specialisedengines.co.uk/index.htm and have had a chat with a guy there the other month. Maybe they could do the gearbox for me, but obviously, i need to get the car started. i talked about the immo problem with this guy, but so far thats as far as it got, he hasn't had a look yet.

    can i fix it myself?

thanks in advance. also, if anyone knows somewhere else i could trust to do my gearbox, would be grateful.

    all the best

    Phil

When you try the starter, are there any volts reaching the copper bridge in relay position 8 in the fusebox?

If no - problem is inside the car and may be the immobiliser.

If yes - problem is in the engine bay.

      thanks,
      i will confirm this.

at first, the car was starting ok every so often with jump leads, but after a few months as the batt died, one day it just wouldn't turn over.

My moneys on the aftermarket immobiliser, i have seem some where they have a master dongle key, and all the others need to be programmed for the immo unit if it has been unpowered for a while. Usually the master dongle is red or marked differently.

If the factory IMMO key isnt working the engine will still crank over but you will have a light on the dashboard with a key symbol on it. No engine cranking smells of after market IMMO to me.

I checked that copper rail in the fusebox, definately no voltage on it as i turn the key. AMD technic are local as well nr lakeside, so guess i have 2 places to try.
i have the next week off, so would very much like to get it started.

          thanks again

Philip save yourself future hassle and take the immob off altogether. You will probably find that there is only 2 points of immobilisation.

No.1 on the rear of the ignition barrel the red/black wire will have been cut. If you cut these 2 connections to the alarm and wire the original audi loom back together it will crank again.

No.2 the feed to the fuel pump will have been cut. Again find this join usually along the passenger cill area and wire the original audi loom back together it will stop the alarm from cutting the fuel pump

              thanks!
that would make a lot of sense.
i always found that push in immob a hassle, and, the grief when i had to get a key coded after losing my set the other year......

Got a picture of your 2.8CQ Phill ?

Always curious when V6 quattros appear on here

Even more so when its one that's a similar colour to mine
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

                    It Works!

                    i got it started!

thanks everyone for your advice, i did talk to the guy at specialised too, and he suggested the same.

i got to the wiring, cut out the immobiliser and reconnected the loom back together,
the car started after about 3 sec's of cranking

will leave the key circuit in place for now.

                    regards

                    Phil
