HM , I could be wrong but I have the same manifold on my old 7A car. I thought it comes as original ????

I still have it if it's so wanted.

The earlier 7A's had the tubular manifold, makes a decent improvement and doesnt crack as easy as the other one.

88-89 had the tubular, 90 onwards had the crappy cast version. I found specs on a German website that spec’s 170bhp for 88-89 and 164bhp for 90 onwards. Interesting that Audi actually published the difference.

Did a second test drive today and it gets really hot with that manifold, so hot it melted the small crank case breather pipe

Next project is to find an early intake manifold to mount the proper heat shield for it..

I did the same to my coupe a coupe of years ago. Replaced the exhaust with the earlier header. I P&P the head and I am running 272 cams. I have a late 1990 and the upper heat shield bolt right up. They must have changed the design on the intake in 1991. I like the way it runs. Of course, not a whole lot of power gains, but doing the head and the exhaust made the car a lot smoother and pulls all the way to redline.

Then again, I have an S6 motor sitting on the floor of the garage.

You will find that the warm air intake on the airbox will not line up anymore. If you live in a cold climate, you may want to pick up the earlier warm air intake. The airbox is the same, just the intake is a change out.

They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.

my 1990 CQ20v has a tubular manifold. I understood that the 2wd 20v cars had the cast manifold and this was the case on a 1989 2wd car I broke up. Still got the engine. I thought the quattro had a bit more power to make up for the drivetrain losses.

I don't know if this image of my CQ20v engine bay helps, I just took it.

That manifold is for engine code NM and is not listed for 7A. But that engine bay, David, is looking well tidy. Im not all that up on my 20V non turbo engines so im not sure which engine was fitted to what. Just going by what ETKA lists

Thanks Tom, I have spent a bit of time sorting it, the biggest job was removing the waxoyl to sort things out ( it will be going back on soon though!) My car had the manifold on when I got it with 7K miles on the clock, it has only done 22k now at 14 years old!.

I'm sitting here fixing computers ( and posting in between ) and I'm not getting on with my Audi.

Ive just stripped a 1990 20v 90 q and a 2wd 20v auto j plate, both had the cast version. Both were cracked as well.Still got plenty of bits left if you need any.

Looks like you have an early model, nice tubular manifold & ISV mounted on the airbox. Odd the 2wd was a cast

The two mounts shown marked in the piccy are not on my manifold, has anybody got an early intake manifold they want to sell ?

                              Thanks,

                              Mark.

P.S. Your car looks like new!
