    All blow and no go...

Its been like this for a while now and i've been putting up with it, but enough is enough.

I put a 3B in my urq a couple of years ago and Tonksy wired it up for me It came out of a cat C doner S2 which i pick up for a song. I smoked the S2 around for a while until the tax ran out then raided it for what i needed. The problem was apparent in the S2 and is now transferred to my ur.

When its cold, like first thing in the morning it pulls like a train, no worries. But as it warms up it starts to hold back. It idles ok, and maybe it'll pull away ok, or then again maybe it will hesitate just as i want to nip out, and leave me apologising to some poor person that's had to slam on his brakes. Sometimes if I floor it, it will make all the noise but nothing to show for it. I can confirm the clutch is not slipping.

Where would one start in sorting this? There is no N75 valve (I have ordered one from S2_Bo) and it looks like the ECU has been apart at some stage. It sits in the ur in the same state as it was in the S2. Just dropped it in and tweek it as i go. A rolling project if you like. My knowledge of the electricals etc is limited, i just want a pokey reliable motor that does what its told.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Anyone?

I was gonna just try a multi pin temp sensor on it but they're £100 from TPS.

Not having an N75 doesn't sound great. I'd put everything back as it should be then pull the fault codes.

Yeah i'm waiting on a N75 from S2 Bo immanently. I didn't know these ECU's stored faults like modern motors do. Just goes to show how much I know!

Are you running a cone filter? If it's tucked by the turbo then you're making life very difficult for the engine by sucking in lots of hot air - especially if it's sat idling in traffic for a while in hot conditions! Needs to be properly shielded and have a nice source of cold air. Might not be the electronic issue but it'll sure make a big difference to things when you're all sorted - I've certainly noticed the difference of real world testing of air boxes and the like.

If it coughs a bit coming on boost then that can be a tired MAF that's out of range, there's also the temperature sensors at the rear of the head (coolant) and on the IM (Inlet Air Temp). Other things to look at are the knock sensors (below the water and inlet manifolds) and as above, boost leaks.

Someone with VAG Com is your friend for this one.

Definitely pull the codes, set the wastegate spring back to standard and plumb up the N75 valve correctly.
Do not buy any parts or waste any money until you have done this.

Cheers. Yes its got a cone filter but I got it plumbed up like this... The alternator is on the other side.

Yeah, about that wastegate spring. Its likely that someone has messed with it. If i pull it apart, how will i know for sure?

That cone filter looks to be fairly well sheilded but I'd put money on your car going better with a standard airbox and filter, particually in hot slow moving conditioins. My 3B had a cone filter when I got it, getting rid of it transformed the car. Second hand ABY airboxes are fairly cheap and of superior design to the original 3B item, not sure if there is room for one in a UR engine bay mind you.

While waiting for the N75 valve to arrive a pulled the codes and it came up with a speed sensor (engine not running), the missing N75 valve fault code, and some sort of altitude sensor ???

I am as yet to reset the wastegate spring to standard. I don't even know if some one has stuck a tougher one in. How can i tell? The ECU has been apart i can see....
