5 bar oil pressure on start up?

Soon as I start the engine I have full oil pressure 5 bar, is this ok? After about five minutes it settles down to 2 bar on idle 5 under load, which is what it used to read Any suggestions?

How long should it take for the pressure to drop back to 2 bar? Been doing a lot of 10 minute runs recently and pressure is still at 4 bar at the end of the journey.

its normal to be around 2bar on a full warm engine. If the engine is cold and the pressure falls to 2bar within 5 minutes, thats a bit odd, unless you have a very hot weather and the engine's coolant temp rises fast enough. it takes my car def.more than 5 minutes to reach normal temp.

My oil pressure is 1.5 bar at idle when warm, is that a bit low?

Should be fine. The sender gets worn with age. I changed mine recently and from 1.4bar on idle its now between 1.8-2bar

                          what oil are you using?

what is your idle rpm as well?

low idle rpm will bring the pressure lower. Thinner oil (10W30-0W30-5W40) depending on type as well, will make the warm idle drop as the flow of oil between the bearings is easier and therefore the reflected oil pressure is lower.

If the engine has done a lot of miles without any bottom end work, there could be a bit of wear there, but overall, if the pressure goes higher than 3bar @ 2000rpm, i wouldnt worry about it.
I would go for a 10W50 titan fuchs and that might make things a bit better.

seeing the exact same on mine changing from a 10/60 to a 5/50. warm idle is about 1.6bar when previously it was bang on 2bar with the 10/60w

remember the oil oilspecs are way to the better TODAY, then the 5pot was att the drawingboard ( pre1980) the oilpressure are ok; if you got over 7 bar when cold, i will high my eybrow... and 1,5-2 bar when hot at idle are also ok... under 1 bar att idle and may some rattle in engine, i will rebuild it.. and 300000 km on the audi 5pot are not problem either..
