How much play in BB turbo?

Does this look OK or not?



It's a bit difficult to see, but watch the edge of the wheel to see how much it moves in relation to the backplate. This is less than 1000miles after a full rebuild with new bearings.

Looks ok, the BB turbo's do seem to have more play than an old school turbo, radial and end float..

it should not have that much movement really,for a rebuilt turbo.i'm not a specialist,but i reckon there's about 2mm movement and that can't be good.can it?

I'll put a DTI on it tomorrow and get a figure, it's nowhere near 2mm though so sounds like it's OK. I only took the housing off as the O ring that seals it has a slight leak on it.

Yea they move about like hell. Don't worry.

Put the housing on it and move it again.
When it don't touch it is okay...

...you can't rebuild the bearings on garrett gt's
...you can only balance it, but when the bearings have to much
clearence you must change the body...
