    Boost experiment

With the WGFV disconnected the max boost I can get is .6 bar. With the bolt wound out the max is .4 bar. With the output from the WGFV plugged, the boost rushes off the scale ( mine reads to 1.5 bar ). I therefore assume that there are no boost leaks. I have the Samcos fitted + every last hose replaced. With all reconnected at standard setting, I think that the ECU is not allowing full boost. I can only get 1.0 bar up to about 4500 RPM and am toying with fitting a stronger WG spring and by passing the WGFV. Anyone else tried this? I know all about the failsafe built into the existing control.
    Cheers James.

Dont do that. Its not safe for the engine to do it that way. The ECU decides how much over boost to give you depending upon the load on the engine. Try doing the same test in 4th gear uphill and it should get nearer to the 1.1bar overboost.

You'd be far better off getting a chip from Mihnea or Paul N if you are keeping the car stock. But if you want to upgrade it further with RS2 bits or otherwise go direct to Mihnea and he will be able to sort custom mapping out for you.

James - if you love your engine, then get some decent chips my man... The ECU needs to be in control of timing, fuel and boost so if you try and go back to the stone-age with pure mechanical boost control then you are potentially going to have some problems.

A stock 3B is specified for ~0.8bar max boost, so you can increase that a little within limits of what the ECU permits by tightening the spring. The reason you hit the ceiling at 1bar is cos the 3B ECU has a 2bar (absolute) MAP sensor. You flatlined it !

3B ECU upgrades from myself or Mihnea include a 2.5bar MAP along with revised software to allow the engine to safely boost to ~1.4bar (maximum) - tailing off to ~0.9 at the redline to keep within efficiency limits of K24 compressor.

A stock healthy ABY should get 1.1-1.2 bar in overboost - max load in 4th or higher. If not then you could have a leak or control problem - maybe the WGFV is faulty. Chipped it will run to 1.4bar - the ABY has a 2.5bar MAP sensor.

Too true, leave that WGFV plugged in. Set the 'unplugged' value to about 0.6 bar. Dont mess around with stiffer springs unless advised so by an expert. This is not necessary on a stock car, if could cause more harm than good.

Curious I had similar experience on my RS2. now that I have a nice boost gauge (got from Gerd - thanx again Gerd) I can read how boost works on this gizmo controled engine ;-)

Usualy hard accelerations (foot down) hits 1.6 bar for a moment and then goes 1.5 or 1.4... but reeving more high it goes 1.1... I think is normal, maybe because ECU is controling all stuff on engine and to avoid engine detonantions (due heat, bad fuel etc...) lows the boost.

I mounted a Hohenester WG spring. Now with a 3 bar MAP sensor I can run 2.0 bar boost. Doing only 1.6 bar. But now it suddenly drops to 1.3-1.4 bar sometimes.
            And not that fast anymore.
            What might be the problem.

              RS2.pt,
Has your RS2 been modded ? 1.6 sounds like it's too high to be a stock RS2....

you are not the fisrt person that already stated that... I dont have a clue honestly... my rs2 seems to me a bit standard. 1.5 - 1.6bar Is the higher I saw on it, ...say starting on 3rd footdown after 3000rpm... realize that it drops to... didnt figure yet when or in what conditions. but I already saw doing that to 1.1 or so; thought It was at 6000rpm near that when pushing.

what is the correct measures supose to be on a standard rs2?

plus when lifting he foot the gauge goes off teh negative scale... think is -0.9bar the at ideling stays on -0.5 some people sayed to me that its ok.

Mine is a 3B and I have been running 1.8 bar. Now down to 1.6. Standard engine. 9.3:1 comp.

It's supposed to peak @ 1.4 bar. Which reminds me Paul said he would send me a map comparison of standard vs homefried. I need to send him a PM....
