Its me that should make the apologies, I was on a very short fuse at the time, half an hour before my original post this happened thanks to my engine block

      OldKingPole;588185]Fair play.

I actually thought it was quite funny. Although it is easy to overlook the fact that not everyone has the ability to express first class grammar and punctuation.

Good work 220, keep us posted... I see we share the same town. Think I might have sold you, or your lad some black leather S2 interior... on the M4?
Are you the guy with the gold ur quattro

Check out firefox, it has built in spelling correction and checks spelling as you type.
It will make your posts easier to read.

I am not trying to take the piss, just trying to help, as it is what I use, and is very helpful for typos & wrong spelling.
      Thank you.

Back to the the original post and my problems, hear are a few pictures.

Head sorted new guides and a valve job.

This is the damage to the block where the snub bracket bolts on.

block bored and honed, deck cleaned.

7A exhaust cam, noticed a small chip out of it but I have been told its ok to use it.

Its all of to be balanced when Aelred gets back of holiday.

What happened to the block near the snub mount then?

And as nobody else asked, what happened to your finger?

As far as the block is concerned,it came from the doner engine and we think it was involved in an offside collision in an earlier life, there is a welded seam on the front of the sump that also indecates this.
As for the finger, after prepping the block I carried it into my house and as I put it down it slipped out of my left hand and rolled over on to my other hand.

              NO!

NEVER use a spell checker. Like bad interpreters, they can start wars.

You probably got away with that one. If you look carefully, you will see that the cam lobes aren't centred over the lifters. This is so that each lifter is given a small turning impulse on each rotation, spinning the lifter round to spread out the wear.

The chip is on the side of the lobe that's partly off the lifter at that point in its rotation - so it probably won't touch the lifter at all.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for that,I need some good news,I cannot tell you how things are going wrong at the moment,I have just found out that the crank journals would not quite clean up,so they have offset to get it right, which they say may alter the piston height by a few thou, not sure what this means but dose not sound good to me.

Would another block be a better bet to go with? Since you got everything to go in.

Not after getting it bored out to take a new set of pistons.
The car it came out of was running with the snub mount fitted and I used the crank locking tool which uses the snub mount to undo the crank bolt as a leaver point with no issues. However it had no aircon which uses this mount to hold the compressor, and mine has aircon.

I'm not sure what it means, either. Have they moved the axis of the big end bearings?

Or did they set their machine up incorrectly?

In most cases it's better to grind more aggressively and fit thicker shells.

This is the sump of my doner engine,I think it conferms that with the damage to the block the doner car had at some time in its life had been repaired.
