hm..
if the engine is stock (newer been opened) than head gasket is paper one.
I opened one AAN engine before one month and they have paper gasket and "20V TURBO" sign on it
today it's only possible to buy metal gaskets for 20vt engines.
maybe paper gasket is available for 7A and NM engines.. I don't know that..
so my question is if go directly in "audi shop" what kind of gasket we will get ?
metal or paper ?
I don't want to spend 70 euro to find out.. did somebody try?

Rocco, sorry to abuse your post but i cannot leave this alone mate
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really doubt that the AAN was offered in anything other that the UrS4. That said there were early build UrS4 avants so maybe that is what you are thinking about.
**i bought a LHD harness from a German breaker (as it was easier to route into my A4) who sold it to me from a non-S audi 100, with no a/c, he has seen 5 or 6 origional cars, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it mr.high horse
There were also inline five cylinder gasoline (petrol) AAR engines in the 92 model line so it might be possible by this point in time (2011) that some of these 100 five cylinders were converted by their owners to AANs at some point in their lives. I would bet more than a fiver that no AANs were factory installed into a normal, non-UrS4, avant or sedan. Note: the early UrS4s were designated Audi 100 S4s so that might have lead to your confusion.
***i can garuantee i am not mistaken for a non turbo AAR
A fiver is one the table if somebody can show me a factory build sticker for an early C4 100 with an AAN that is not an UrS4.
***i have just emailed the breaker i bought my harness from last year :corey:
Here is a build sticker from a "Euro" 93 Audi 100 avant that ended up in Canada. It had a 5 cylinder AAT diesel engine.
***what relevance does that have to Rocco`s question? again....... :corey:
You are not the be all and end all of URS4 knowledge, i assure you
i have researched, and searched everywhere for many years about AANs before i did my A4 conversion, and i know that there were several factory "mules" produced with said AAN`s LOL
i first saw his in some form of Audi literature, had info on sport quattro`s and 200TQ`s and the likes, will find this.1993 URS4 Avant Emerald Green 350+bhp

if you go to audi and order AAN headgasket, they will charge you £43 (corret at time of going to press) and supply you with a letal multi-layer gaskethm..

I would love to be *proven* wrong. And by "proven", I mean show me an article about the test mules or show me a build sticker (the one I posted was just an *example*) and I will double the fiver.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

Rocco, i had to fabricate and modify so much but it is AAN, A4 DQY 6sp box and A4 TDi quattro running gear (same size as RS4 stuff)
And i had to modify the harness very slightly to fit.
URS4boy, how is this hearsay? i HAVE read this in a book and the breaker sold me a non aircon loom from a non S 100,
i dont take kindly to being called a liar.

I am not calling you a liar. All I am asking for is hard proof to back up your statements, e.g. the name of the book (so I can find it), a scan of the page in the book (even better), a photo of the build sticker that would say "AAN" in a non-S4 Audi 100 (best). If you weren't there in Germany to see the car you are simply repeating information that might or might not be correct, i.e. the breaker might have been wrong.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

The early AAN did not have a true distributor; It was a distributor "base" with the hall sensor inside, driven from the cam gear to signal the ecu, which fires 5 coils just like the later cars with the cps on the front of the cylinder head. All the urs cars offered here in the states were fitted with
5-speed manual, no automatics or 6-speeds were sold here (I am sure a few 6-gangers got here under the grey-market wire though). The AAN was not limited to the S4 only, as posted above--it was also fitted to the S6. Also, I have seen my share of paper-gasket AAN's upon teardown.
Now, I too would like to see evidence of a 100 optioned from VAG with an AAN--it is more than likely the breaker was mistaken, or that the car in question was retrofitted..sigpic

Should be composite gasket on your car.
If it is metal, usually it is because someone has taken the head off in the past.
Keep in mind, that if you change a composite gasket for a metal one, you should skim the head and deck the block.Comment
-
and why would that be? The head and block surface should be flat from the factory right? So if the old headgasket was not blown due to overheating I can't see why the head and block should be skimmed?Comment
