If you lose G4 or G28 during operation your car will instantly die.
Are you sure about G4. Knocked the flywheel pin off when I had the 7A whilst it was running when I dropped a bolt and it fell through the timing aperture. Engine kept running and bolt fell out through the bottom and thought nothing of it until I switched off the engine and went to restart it and it wouldn't....

Keep pulling codes.
Your car will feel like **** until you get rid of all the trigger errors.
Can I do this be disconnecting ECU for a while. Being loaned a distributor as I type so one less item to consider. Will get codes read again at end of week prior to driving down to ADI.
Just wondering, would a dodgy Lambda cause the engine to stall at tickover??

Look, you have trigger errors. Until you get rid of them, and I don't mean erasing codes, I mean fixing the problem, your car is not going to run properly.
If you don't know how to fix it, then pay someone who does...

Have replaced G28 and it still comes up with a fault when it cuts out hence why I am thinking its something else that's causing a red herring and bringing up this code and G4 at the same time every time....
If I had any money worth noting I wouldn't have had to completely build this car from the ground up myself and it wouldn't have taken 15 years

If it is coming up with those faults and you have replaced the sensors, it is a wiring problem, plain and simple.
Or the ECU is shot, but that is unlikely.
No matter how much you write about it, they are not going to go away by themselves.
And no, lambda can not cause this, your maf can not cause this, and your dog can not cause this either

Is it possible using VAGcom to log values for the various sensors. I use this type of thing at work and provides a graph to indicate and detect missing pulses on Stepper motors, prox switches etc etc. Be good if I could monitor G4, G28, Throttle pot, G40 and MAF outputs for a minute at a time until error occurred and go back and look to see what is happening....
Will put G4 on my swap list too. Thanks

No, you can't, you need a multichannel scope.
The triggers provide interrupt requests in the SAB80C535 MCU's of the ECU. If that tells you anything.
No interrupt request = no ignition, no injection, no nothing.

Are the replacement flywheel pick-ups available from GSF any good as they are half the price of the ones on 'back order' from Audi...

Issues sorted, just in time for ADI.
Swapped G4 for one from GSF and car wouldn't start at all. Assumed the new pickup was ok so took off the rubber boot from the loom plug to find the inside section of the plug that holds the crimped pins had become detached and the wires were not therefore fully home against the sensor plug pins, must have been like this a while and only just touching with occasional not touching at all causing the cutting out and rough running. Now superglued the pink section to the housing and car started instantly. Quick drive round the block and all seems as it should be. Full test will be drive to ADI on Saturday.
Thanks for all help and advice

The G28 and G4 sensors go very, very rarely. The one that usually goes is G40, and even then, most of the time it is just wiring to one of them.
The fact that all the plugs are crimped without solder at the factory does not help.
I have had issues with my MAF connector, my TPS connector, Coolant sensor connector. After soldering everything, the problems disappeared...
