Cooling Fan staying on - Help!

Hi guys,

my cooling fan has decided it won't go off since doing a couple laps of the ring, any ideas?

Not sure if it at all related, but a couple of days before i left the bottom left warning light flashed and reset when i turned ignition off and on again. It says CAT on my cluster but the light filter is wrong on my car so I don't know what it actually is!

The car has a brand new MFTS and is running VEMS.

Fan switch is at the bottom of the rad near the chassis leg. Pull the plug off, if it stops the switch is stuck closed. If it carries on turning there is a fault with a relay or wiring. There are three relays for the different speeds and after-run.

Try giving the switch a tap with the handle of a screwdriver

if you got some oil ( bad headgasged or oilcooler) then the switch dont feel right temp.....some switches may cost $$$...

Cheers guys, its not the switch, pulling the plug made no odds. I swapped the two 324 relays, no odds...

It sometimes goes off then back on a minute or so later, it has a mind of its own. This is all while the car is stopped and key out. It seems to be the low speed too. For now I am just pulling the relay after a little while to cool. I'll check those threads out too

Bad day at the ring today. I did three laps, all three of them I had a boost hose pop off. Perhaps it was a good thing as a guy here in the ringhaus had a bad crash and is €5.5k worse off for barrier repairs - and minus one BMW328i!

5k5 is a lot of barrier I trust he is uninjured?

Cheers guys just read that after posting, it was a grey relay ending in 4 there were two of i swapped!

Will check out the after run one. It could be that as i have to kick the cover under the dash now and again to get the windows to work!

Guys are fine, 328 totalled and they are short on cash now! But the main thing is they are fine. It was very slippery yesterday, I couldn't believe how many cars i overtook while running round at 2krpm with a boost hose off trying to not let the turbo spool!

Yes, the ring is "Holiday on Ice" in autumn with a bit of rain..

Which boost hose are you having problems with?

Turbo Outlet and DV pressure side. The DV has somewhat misshapen itself with the hose being so tight! The Turbo one is slightly the wrong angle. Seems to be ok now, at 1.9 Barg.

OK now looking for help with this again.

The fan is now on all the time, whether the plug is in the bottom of the rad or not.

I have proved the relay is not stuck. So now what? I measured resistance across the three wires of the plug at the bottom of the rad - there is no short but the is ~ 25Ohms between the outer most pins.

Any help appreciated.

Oh, I think it is on slow speed.

Afterrun relay...or the afterrun switch...
Is running with engine off or dosint matter?
