MTFS plug broken... ideas to repair?

The RS2 started behaving a little 'off' yesterday... feeling a bit sluggish, and only 1.1bar of boost (I thought it was on stock spring but obviously not!). I took it out for a drive today, problem persisted, then the coolant warning light came on and does every time you start it now. I pulled the MFTS plug and confirmed that was the issue.

The plug seemed damp - must be a very slight leak from the MFTS... pulled back the rubber boot to find it was half full of coolant and the wire joins are very corroded. To the point where one of the connections has completely disintegrated and the wire (with half a spade) was hanging out. Explains the warning light...

I think the ideal would be to cut the plug off, strip back the wires and connect a new plug. If access is a problem, connecting 4 new wires and crimping them onto the loom may be the way to go. Question is... where can I get a new plug without buying a donor loom?

For a temp fix I'm thinking attach 4 spades, slide onto the MFTS and bind it up with insulation tape until I can fix it properly... any reason this would be a bad idea

i have been running without a plug for a long time now. You could make that a permanent solution!

Try 893 971 974 for the 4 pin housing, £2.10 from your stealer.

Otherwise I would heat shrink the terminals on, rather insulting tape.

        Dealer

It is less than £5 for the plug and the new pins attached to a few inches of wire.

But spades onto the correct terminal will work fine as well, obviously not as well protected, or as much of a moisture trap.

Just make sure you know what wires go where, I had a plug disintegrate and had to find what colour went where.

Andy: Did you happen to document which colour wire went to which terminal on the MFTS?

Regarding the connector, there is info in this MFTS info post:

Thanks I'll get a replacement on order and get some spades in the mean time. If I drive with it unplugged do I get constant enrichment as if it's cold start?

                You won't afaik.
The ECU uses a separate sensor for coolant, I think only the switch is used from the MFTS.
You can pull pin 44 from ECU connector temporarily as well.

The ECU uses G62 on the back of the head for coolant temperature and enrichment.
The MFTS (F76) just limits boost when the coolant goes above 118°C and switches the AC off.
I've actually seen high coolant temperature limit boost on Jeffry's RS2 at the Ring.

You can buy the new pins in pairs joined by a length of yellow cable from the dealer. They come in different cable sizes depending on size. I think the F76 uses 0.5mm cable.
Or you can buy just the terminal pins from somewhere like VWP, and crimp them onto the existing cable, or new correct colour cables.

Are you sure it's pin 44? I make it pin 46, and 36 for the 3B.

Agree on Pin 46 (at least for an ABY)

There was a thread on this same topic just two weeks ago. There are impacts from the MFTS on an ABY (and likely 3B) if the coolant temps get too high. (>118 C) (Go to pages 3 and 4):

Agree about pin 36 for the 3B, based on this diagram (from Paul N's website):

I know that one of the wires (12+) is no-longer needed with the...

I tried a spade connector bodge fix and it didn't work, so I uplugged it and the car is running much better now. Since it 'went' she was a little rough, and I was getting mild misfires intermittently (at idle, under load, and mostly around 3k). I can't understand why the MTFS would cause this definitely is though, it's simple... plug it in, runs rough; pull it out, nice n smooth.

Oh and driving for a couple of days with S2 power and then going to remapped RS2+ power is like night 'n day

Oh and it's the black/blue wire that corroded right through.
