    Hot Side Passing Oil

New Turbo, 3" full Turbo Back Exhaust system. Oil Feed -4AN

I have the Standard oil drain going to the top of the appendage on side of the sump pan, can this cause a Turbo to pass oil into the exhaust due to back pressure and lack of it from the exhaust. This set-up correct oil level is higher than connection on the pan with the oil quite far up the return pipe from the Turbo.

I'm thinking Possible + pressure on oil return vs no + back pressure from exhaust system to the Turbo causes a leak ????

Would i be better fitting the return that mates on to the side of the block ?

Any experience with this problem or thoughts ?

Should work fine with the stock oil return inlet on the block. The lower connection you are using is propably the issue, the oil doesn't drain freely from the turbo. The turbo isn't a ballbearing?

its kommen that the oil will go out the hot side; the prob are the little "pistonring" in a bussing near the hot side are stuck; read not the bearing for the turbo, but a little part, looks like a pistonring...ca 12-15mm wide and 1,5mm thick... then the blue smoke, and really BAD co out, even you have the new cat on

Found my crankcase breather valve fitted the wrong way round, what is the consequence of this?

Also where is the flame trap is it inside the pipe from this valve ?

If it doesn't work properly like any that I've ever seen, then nothing... assuming it is then I guess your breather system would not be ventilating as positive pressure would lock the valve closed. I don't see how that could cause oil loss from the hotside though, weren't you going to send it back for inspection?

The flame trap is in the metal pipe from the PCV valve that runs up to the back of the inlet manifold and eventually into the breather pass-through pipe on the cam cover. It's just round the bend that is after the valve so you'll probably need to get a hooked wire and fish around in there.

Worth making sure that all your PCV pipes are clear and have no leaks.
Its not unusual for RS2 turbos to burn oil, there have been quite a few brand new ones with this problem over the years, your's sounds worse than usual though.. As you said the drop in back pressure from the 3" doesn't help.

The flame trap is a little bundle of brass wire, usually they become a ball of crud and block the pipe, lob it if you find it.
