Sounds like the first 2 options you describe are not suitable for what I will use the car for, so a 7A cam cover and the coil packs sat separately would be better suited.

Rocco, how hard did you find it to do this on a 3B?

Getting hold of the ABY Motronic and harness from e-Bay looks simple, what about the pin swap and wiring?

No problems @ 36 psi with 2.0 TFSI coils.

I mean, maybe if you go over 800hp there will be a difference, but so far no problems with over 650hp.

Things get taken out of context too often. I have personally tuned these coils at high boost levels and have not had any problems with them misfiring.

The comment "they are more robust and can handle both tracking and hp levels above RS2+ levels better than the 1.8t and 2.0 tfsi options" is based on experience in NAmerica and is primarily based on 1.8t coil packs versus the 034 HO and LS2 coil kits. Not much 2.0tfsi experience here yet. I have no doubt that you can get the 1.8t and 2.0tfsi coil packs to work for high hp applications. At least for awhile. I would question how long they would last in the real world driving or tracking applications, not a few drag strip runs.

I am not going to get into a p*ssing contest on this.

Here is one very neat example (Coil to plug wires do fit under the firewall end of the OE coil pack cover if you remove the black plastic insert):

Looks pretty nice RHD S2s don't have as much room on the strut brace but I'm sure a solution could be found.

I don't see Gallardos and new Audi's having massive coil issues?
All of the issues with 1.8T coils on these cars are caused by having the dwell set completely wrong with them in the ecu. Three times higher in fact, overheating and killing the coils!

It's like running your engine on 17 afr on boost and wondering why it blew up.
Then blaming the engine as "weak".

2.0 TFSI ones are more resistant to it, but it is still a good idea to run correct dwell.

I have a set of 034 high output coils for sale if you want them. £250
I originally got them 2 years ago as my standard coils were shot and it was cheaper than buying OEM and the fact that they came with a lifetime warranty and would be future upgrade proof
it seemed the way to go.
The only reason I'm not running them is one of them failed and while I was waiting 3 weeks to
ship the 1 that failed back to the us have 034 confirm it was dead and send me a replacement I broke an URS4 that had a mint set of OEM coils so I put them on in the meantime and I've never bothered to put the high output ones back on. The only down side to these cols is if you do have
one fail and you live in the UK . If I was going to use them again I would buy a spare one so if by chance I did have another 1 fail I could just swap it wile waiting for my replacement to come.

I know dwell is the killer of the 1.8t coilpacks and perhaps the 2.0 TFSI ones as well (with time). As a means of comparing apples to apples, between a 034 or LS2 coil pack systems (which are more capable of handling dwell - probably due in part to their size and location) and the 1.8t coilpacks (for example), what is the cost of a tune or chip set to eliminate the original OE "excessive" dwell to make the 1.8t coilpacks last as long as the 034 or LS2 coil systems?

That is exactly why I didn't buy the 034 kit and bought the EFI express Ls2 coils instead

034 has been very secretive about their "HO" coils even though I have found a Mercury boat motor coil that *looks* externally exaclty the same (034 claims that theirs are "custom" built to their spec.) As a result, they can only be sourced from 034.

The LS2 coils are widely available in NAmerica, and I presume also in Europe and the UK at least to some degree, e.g. Monaro V8s.

If you were to get your car chipped or mapped by me, I would not charge any extra above what I would normally charge to make the dwell correct for these coils.
