Lou, great to hear the car is back on the road. Glad you kept the faith with the rebuild.

I have VAG com on my laptop now, so give us a shout if you need any code reading.

I have now done 300 miles since the rebuild. Pluged in to vagcome with dans help and got the following codes

          00533
          00532
          0513
          01262

The last one maybe because the n75 has been unpluged for the full 300miles.
I have cleaned and fitted a different Maf,and cleaned the ISV.
The rev's are a little more stable at tick over,if a little high, about 950.I have plugged in the n75 and tried a little boost, just to see if the turbo was working, and it hessitates and pops a bit as its coming on boost, I have not used WOT at all ,the car dos not like running slowly. It could be that the car needs the map altered to take in the new 7a cam and lower compression.
The only other issue, other than the speedo still not working ,is that after a run the tappets are a little noisy, it could be the GSF 10/40 mineral oil,the tappets are quiet from cold.
          Any ideas would be appreciated

Have you pressure tested?, sound like maybe a boost leak.

Read my thread about the MAF connector too.

The car has developed an idle problem now and is difficult to drive at low revs in traffic.
I have cleaned the ISV,MAF,and checked for leaks, and so far found nothing.I have also changed the TPS,as the idle was a high, which helped a little when cold, but when the engine got up to tempreture it was prity much the same.
I had a couple of oil leaks, one at the back of the head,I had forgotten to attach the hose to the small breather nipple on the rocker cover.and the dip stick was lose,so ther was oil splashing out.
I am wondering if this oil leak at the back of the head may of caused problems with the electrical connections.so i am going to take the leads and dizzy cap of and clean them
along with the other sensor connections.

Did a few things today, fixed an oil leak on the flexy to the oil filter housing.
Took the ISV of ,cleaned and replaced. also rotated the throttle body hose as it was interfearing with the TPS conector.
Changed the oil and filtre again,400miles done now useing castrel gtx magnitec 10/ 40.
Car is running a little better, but still has the high idle, around 1250,if you feather the throttle it will ocilate from 1000 to 1400.
I have again set the TPS useing the 5.5 mm drill bit to adjust the throttle damper and the TPS.
Idle is still high at 1250, and closed to open throttle when driving is harsh to say the least, but when you press the throttle it builds and then pops.
With a new rebuilt engine, and a 7a cam, plus a lower CR. I know the MAP is out and will need adjustment. but surly these issues are nothing to do with the high idle,or low rev problems.

                    Lou

Glad your slowly getting sorted.. Your latest issue does sound like an air leek. Are you happy that the throttle plate is closing properly? Injector "O" rings were not crimped when putting them back etc..

                    All the best

                    Darren.

I agree with Darren, Lou. The high idle could be caused by a leak from anywhere from the throttle plate onwards, that then turns into a nasty boost leak.
Also double check the idle switch is clicking when the throttle closes too.

Check TPS opening degrees @ idle with VAG-COM.
Pressurise the intake and make sure the car holds at least 0.5 bar pressure from the MAF.
