    Still you are talking about wheel sizes Jamo when im referring to perfomance and spooling.

    ok, so lets talk about wheel sizes just to add to your points...

    Lets clear out something first:

    You say:
    GT3071= 5360
    GT3076= 5760
    Holset Super40= 6065

    BUT as Billman says: holset turbine exducer/inducer is : 65/75
    similarly GT3071 and 3076 is 55/60

    SO its either going to be:

    GT3071=5355
    GT3076=5755
    HX40=6065

    OR

    5360
    5760
    6075

    respectively....

    I believe that the 'other' diameter is also important, as it may give good info of the turbo.(ie extended tip or the turbine inducer being much closer to the exducer, making the turbine much bigger overall)

    I was presented with a CT355 by CT back when i was using the 3071 as being better than the 3071 in lag and hp. From what i read now and from other people using them, i realise that this statement was inaccurate now, as it is better in hp, but probably worse in lag. But you cannot have everything in life!

    On another note, i know of 2 greek CT turbo users which both had turbo failures within 1000kms of use. One of them was blamed to the mechanic not using proper restrictors on the oil feed, so the turbo starved. The second, was damaged pretty much within 500kms of use, everything was using within spec, turbo was shipped back to the US and took 3 months for a response which again was bearing failure due to oil starvation. However CT is unable to say if that was due to a bad connection or failure of parts. So no refund as of yet. The owner couldnt wait and already bought a GTX instead.

    From those 2 above points im not that worried about turbo failures, as they can happen and garrett is not a company that hasnt had a few of their own!!! haha. What im more worried is the aftersales service... I would love to try one of those one day but im so worried that im going to be left without a car for months, which sets me off..

      The good thing with tracktor and boat turbos is that first of all they are specsed to last thousands of hours of use, and second thing is that you can service and replace them almost everywhere and for a quite small cost. The disadvantage is some unsensitivity and small lack of spool compared to BB-turbos.

          What you say about cam timings to effect my spool up, they are now something like in0,6mm/ex1,2mm open @ TDC?

            Do not forget that Jyrki made some modifications to my CT before he shipped it out to me. So I think I have some sort of hybrid CT355 that delivers 530-550HP on a stock ADU cyl head with tubular EM and still boost 2.2 bar at 3500-3600 RPM

                thanks for the info gents....it's been good reading....

                unfortunately I am still nowhere near deciding which way to go....smaller housing with bigger turbine, smaller housing or just chance my arm with the current set up....

                it does look like 0.63 is the one thing I may have to do to avoid lag....

                it is also a minefield out there when it comes to who to choose to do the work....

                    machining of turbo housing to match either the profile of the current 58mm turbine or a possible new 60mm turbine....it seems either Kai, CT themselves or Owen developments (as suggested by JP)

                      I would use Owen Developments quite simply as they are Uk based and have a very good reputation.

                      Not saying the others don't, its just that their the other side of the water which can at times not be very useful.

                      Out of interest has anyone used a GTX3071 on the I5 yet, would be interested to see some results using them, I know its off topic but its the sort of area your covering

                        How better could be my new CT4 5865 0.63ar billet compressor over my gt3076 82ar ?

                        I am impressed how small the oil lines are...

                        Dmitri does not like too much these turbos...he preffer gtx,HTA or Holset ones

                          i would say that your 5865 would be far better than the 3076.

                          i too would try the HTA one if i had the patience and funds!!

                              I had a .82 hotside in CT before I changed it to .63. Bigger turbine housing was so sh*tty machined that the impeller touched to the turbine housing from the other side of the wheel.

                              But now when I have tested the .63 housing I would buy .82 if I had to choose. With the .82 housing car was pulling harder in the top end 6krpm-->, and I just love that

                              With smaller housing its more streetable but it lacks the top end power IMO.
