Does your fuel pump have a one way check valve - may be a factor as the 7A set up has one and maybe yours hasn't - just a wild, crazy thought...probably totally irrelevent. I'll go back to my beer now.

Carb cleaner is quite an aggressive solvent and is not good for the valve, WD40 is much kinder and leaves a bit of lube in there.
Strange that the car runs just the same with ISV disconnected though..
Just because you can hear the switch clicking doesn't mean the switch signal is getting to the ECU.Comment

Just back from a wee drive in the 80. Bloody pile of sh*te
It fired up nicely with no starter jamming for the first time since I got the car.... which was nice.
Starter hasn't jammed once since yesterdays dizzy re alignment.
I'm now getting these two codes though,
2312 coolant temp sensor
2342 oxygen sensor
I'm also thinking the thermostat is stuck open. Car only gets up to full temp when ticking over or slow stuff around town.
Would the thermostat being stuck open affect the ECU ?Comment

I've fitted a new thermostat and the needle now comes much further up the temp gauge when driving.
I've fitted a new coolant temp sensor.
I changed these two bits a day apart just so I could tell which one made a difference, if any.
I spoke too soon about the starter not jamming, It's doing it again.
I took it for a 20 mile drive today after clearing the fault codes from the other day.
Car still has hesitation right throught the rev range. Stuttery below 4k and flat after 4k.
No fault codes though.Comment

It was all going so well.....
Drove home from work tonight no problems. Cars been parked up since then. Just been out to go down to my mates and the car won't start. Just spins on the starter. I can't hear the pump priming. I've tried a spare fuel pump relay, made no difference.
Any ideas ?Comment

(albeit with a 6a 16v) ive been through a month of this and it was poor ignition timing (only adjustable with ECU in specific adjustment mode) and a very very badly setup metering unit and manky breather hoses and throttle bodie!
try turning the ignition on, before starting press full throttle then off the pedal, then crank as its cranking slowly depress throttle
this is the only way my 6a would start from cold, every time once i got the nack.
now its just flick the key and away we go ( a good few weeks of tiny adjustments on the throttle plate inside the metering head)
maby a CO emissions machine might help you get a rough balance
hope this helps
