    crankcase pressure build up help...?

on my 94 urs4, (with holset super 40 turbo), i have been experiencing alot of crank case pressure build up, (sign of this are oil seeping out of the oil pan gasket slowly, also i see where the head and the block meet very little oil seeps from there also)

i have already installed a catch can, just routed into the system, i was thinking of possibly tapping into the catch can, and putting a little breather on it so it vents some of the pressure to the atmosphere ....what do you think of this?

also ive been people drilling the metal pipe that runs inside of the valve cover, (with numerous small holes) to help release the pressure...let me know your input on this. thanks guys

Do you still have the check valve in the breather system? Its in the T at the back of the head where the pipe changes size. If its not working properly you'll be pressurising the CC when you come on boost.

If you want to vent the catch can to atmosphere you'll have to block off the pipe that goes through the cam cover and connects to the MAF hose or you will be drawing in unmetered air.

Are all the other pipes clear of sludge and is you PCV valve clean inside?

Ummm...the catch can cannot just sit at the end of a hose, sealed, with no outlet, it needs a vent, either to atmosphere (with a filter) or back into the PCV system. Either way, the catch can should not be pressurized if the system is working properly. Have a read on the UrS AAN PCV system (click on the link and then on the PCV system label on the lower right side of the diagram):

That location is true for an ABY or ADU but for an AAN, the PCV (one-way bleeder) valve is in *below* a T under the throttle body (Item 10 below):

is there any way to check the check valve if its faulty?

was just an idea with venting to the atmosphere, is it recommended? or if the catch can, and check valve all working properly that should be necessary?

and all the pipes that ive seen, look clean of sludge

i have my catch can exactly where the (proposed location for the catch can in the diagram is located), it goes in the catch can and back out, connecting right back up into the system....

however where the diagram shows the tube inside the valve cover and how that connects to the turbo charger, i just have a small tiny filter (where it leaves the valves cover connecting to the turbo) could this be one cause that there isnt constant air flow being circulated through the system because of this? or this shouldnt affect it?

The one-way bleeder valve, aka "PCV" valve or check valve, PN 035103245A, is a ball valve, i.e. a metal ball in a cage that closes under pressure. If you remove it, it from its home in the rubber mounting, the ball should move when you shake it. If it doesn't or even it does, you probably should clean it in solvent to remove oil residue that might be preventing the ball from seating properly.

In theory, the way your catch can system is set up, with the vent to the atmosphere via the filter at the cam cover outlet should be fine mechanically. Environmentally, not so fine (better to connect to the turbo hose so any remaining oil vapours are burned and then cleaned up by the catalytic converters.)

If you reconnect to the MAF hose the constant vacuum asistance will help clear the fumes too. My feeling is your pipework is a bit long and thin to really breathe easily..

are any other using the stock size piping for this? and if running bigger how much bigger do you recommend?

any sence in drilling small holes in the vent pipe inside of the valve cover? (believe i saw some 7a guys doing this possibly?

Absolutely no "sence" (sense) in drill holes in the tube that passes through the AAN cam cover.

Urs4boy actually there is if you are going to a catch tank setup
Speak to Rwd19t and see sonics thread
I would have the same bit I'm going 3b cover
The pipe becomes the input to the catch tank instead of outlet to turbo hose

Still using a crank vent or not though?

I think he is saying that relieving any pressure from the valve cover is a good idea and that with a catch can you do not have to worry about extra oil.

does this alter the setup of the catch can? does it have to be routed differently?
