No. But dirty MAF can foul tha ECU and misleads the display. Also bad MAF cable contacts can do the same sh...,,te. Take a deep breath and clean the MAF gently and at the same time take care of the contacts too. Fuel consumption should go down to some 11-12 in a warm land like yours. Depending on the air filter the MAF should be cleaned every now and then...Of course many other faults can cause your problem....Originally posted by kniniois the mpg on the on bord computer take the signal from the maf? because its playning once 40 litre per 100 km in the citry drive and once 0.0 and mostly 20 litre is it a reason for a dirty maf? ill be thanksfull for any information about that!!

what do u think can cause that too? but i have the maf never been cleaned.. shall i clean just the maf the sensor which have two tiny wire? or also the hollow of it? and what is the second reason for this playing? lambda sensor? can do that? today morning i was warming the engine and then i found it tooking 18 litre per 100 km at 1000 rpm so is that normal?Comment

You should do it step by step, to know which action solved your problem. Basically when you clean (rinse) the MAF, the housing is cleaned aswell, but be very careful not to injure the wire. Isopropilalcohol is usually used for the cleansing. The wire should be shiny at the end. Clean the contacts too. If all these doesn't work, you can look further. If it's the lambda probe, the VAG diagnostic tool should write the fault code out. Good luckOriginally posted by kniniowhat do u think can cause that too? but i have the maf never been cleaned.. shall i clean just the maf the sensor which have two tiny wire? or also the hollow of it? and what is the second reason for this playing? lambda sensor? can do that? today morning i was warming the engine and then i found it tooking 18 litre per 100 km at 1000 rpm so is that normal?Gabor

Yes the Bosch is somehow less costly than the Audi shop one. Once more, very carefully with the MAF wire.Originally posted by kninioallright my friend

hehe i will be carefull for the maf wire.. one more question is the Isopropyl alcohol the same as ethanol pure?Comment

heheheeh no, ethanol pure is better (to drink). basically ethanol pure would also do the job. The main thing is that your cleanser should leave no traace when its dry.Originally posted by kniniohehe i will be carefull for the maf wire.. one more question is the Isopropyl alcohol the same as ethanol pure?Gabor

Dont worry, ethanol is fine here. For some reason people don't waste alcohol for such measures, rather the IPA which is not for drinking. Unfortunately ethanol draws water when the bottle is opened so the so called "pure" word is not true for long....Originally posted by kninioi puted some ethanol at my skin and if the air blow on it , it disapears with out leaving any trace and it disapears very quick faster then bezine..Gabor
