Interesting. Maybe contacting fuel thickens as it tries to seep through sealing itself. Def one for the books.

That was fun it was in the roof of the garage!
There's a few little rust spots on the surface only, has been stored since late 80s. Had a cap on it and smells like old fuel inside

Found the leak from tank and it along the seam. Next to the rear diff / prop. It also has rust bubbles above this. So new tank is needed. newsh the tank looks different.
Temp fix is to run from a 25litre container from the boot and extend the fuel lines. Fingers crossed it works and the Mrs will drive it............

I noticed doing the fuel pump in the S4 it had a metal tank, unlike the S2 which is plastic. I fixed a tank before on a 2002 BMW using some of that metal putty stuff, basically used it along the seam inside the tank which stopped it seeping out.
