Unfortunately the only two companies I would trust to line bore/line hone in the UK (both do hundreds of race engines per year) neither of the two was interested in machining two different densities of material as it causes the blades to skip on the transition. So they could not gaurantee the job hence taking the route to strap the caps on mine.

On a side note about diesel blocks. My 95.5mm ACV crank is a lot lighter than the ABY, counter weights are thinner. I was thinking diesel cranks would be heavier if anything.

Yes, it's propably difficult to get it good. That in the pic is done in finland but I have no clue what motorshop has done it.

I thought Jens Eklund had something similar done on his IL5.

            Edit: Yes by Snarskogen mechanik.

On newer engines they rework the bores before cracking the main caps from the casted block.

Strange my 95.5mm crank weighed 22kg and the Stock AAN weighed 20kg so I knife edged the diesel crank to bring it down to 20kg.

Where did you see the signs of the block twisting? Was is something you could measure or wear patterns or something else?

Sorry, looks are deceiving and I was assuming. I just weighed them up.

ABY=19.2 ACV=19.7 (when weighed without rags sitting on top)

Side by side, wieghts on the ACV crank appear a lot thinner but they are slightly longer.

After tearing down the motor, a machine shop did measurements across the top of the block. They also measured the bore down the middle of the block. That is where the twisting was revealed. The crank was not damaged.

Hmm well your using a VW base not the Audi shared AAT / AET base

The AET / AAT crank has a different part number to the ACV so your doing a stroker using a crank thats a bit unknown.

                              Interesting the crank is lighter

First for everything I guess. The only difference I can see is the added trigger plate and the weight, hope they didn't stinge out on material or strength

I don't think anyone has attempted a 20v/stroker conversion here in OZ. Would be good to know where the handful of S2 owners in OZ are. Last I heard there were about 5 left out of the 20 imported.
