I left my flame trap out, I just though it was asking for trouble having that thing sitting in the crankcase breather ready to fall in the sump..

No gunge in the other hoses? How about the metal one to the MAF?

My RS2 turbo on the coupe used to send out a puff of smoke when starting, apparently a lot of them do that.

My avant used a lot of oil and would drop the boost if you drove it hard through the gears, turned out the bore were glazed, too many short journeys and full synth oil in a previous life.. BTW that makes me wonder you changed the oil recently, what oil did you use?

I havent done the lower maf pipe yet will inspect tommorow , The other hoses that i looked in seemed suprisingly clean and the flame trap was by far the dirtiest thing in the whole system so far.

In regards to changing the oil im currently running VAG syntha Z 10w-40 , Oil pressure is good and 5 bar+ when cold and 2bar when hot (always 5bar under load regardless of temp) 1000 miles so far on this oil

Ok thanks newsh , i must say i did think the compression looked ok , my new flame trap and other associated pcv bits are arriving today so i think il check the maf hose give it all a good clean and put it all together and test.

Il be back with the results !

Lets hope it was the flame trap blocked. There's always a bit of condensed oil vapour in the inlet tract with the PCV system in place so the fact that your inlet tubes are dry definitely points to a blockage.

Nope replaced everything i could in the pcv , thought i had solved the problem as the car didnt smoke at all on restarting , got up to temp still no smoke , parked up and left alone for a few hours , started up and moved and within 2 mins started bellowing smoke again .

Im now leaning towards trying a turbo ?

Would pulling the lambda and having a nosey possibly show anything?

If i remember the nr 3 was the lowest compresion.Usualy wears more.It is under 9 bar that is not good.I guess rings/cilinders.
Was compresion test done with hot engine? If was cold it will drop almost 1 bar when hot.
Is your car smoking when reved?

Did the condition of the spark plugs tell much? An odd one out in colour or all the same?

They're all a bit grubby. Maybe clean em all up refit and run for a little while, whilst its smoking. Then re-check them again?

I dunno wether it'll help or not might be worth a go?
