sorry must have misunderstood ? do you mean remove the maf connector and replace while engine off?NOT a car dealer! just an S2/RS2 enthusiastComment

yes, the plugs are prone to playing up, do it a few times then try the beast, like i said mine done this a few weeks ago, i started her up and went to back out my garage and kin hell i couldn't see where i was going, then like yours it stoped, till i nailed it then it started agian, but all is well now,, but whos to say yours will be the same but worth a try geez
ps have you driven her like this, and wot happenedComment

nope didnt want to take the risk and drive her , from the moment ive had any smoke out the back i have left her in my yard at work , ive had a few instances of cloudy blue smokey moments now and then random occurances of the smoke dissapearing , both at cold and hot temps , low revs and high revs(4k ish) - this is why its so baffeling to me , surely a current fault would stay current ?? i.e if the turbo was shot surely it would stay shot wether it was hot, cold, idling or reving ?NOT a car dealer! just an S2/RS2 enthusiastComment

If you get a spot of corrosion on one of the MAF connector pins it can upset the air mass reading and make the engine run intermittantly rich, this can cause smoking. This is what Bully is referring to. By pulling the MAF connector on and off a few times the contact is cleaned (usually temporarily) and normal running is restored.

If you say that pipes from compresor to inlet are not containing oil this means compresor is not leaking. Also means vapors of oil does not get in tubo inlet(a cloged air filter can cause that).
Seems valve guides/seals worn in exces or cilinders/rings.
I found out from opening i5 engines i buy for spares that almost all of them that have worn cilinders(0.1/0.2 even 0.25mm) have rings that put in a good cilinder have gap under 1mm.That means that rings are stronger than cilinders. If someone found out the oposite please tell.
So you can buy/rent a small tube camera to ceck for wear at the TDC.But if you will get head of for guides/seals you can ceck cilinders and measure them.
Please keep posting your findings.

it seems the effect you are describing is exactly the same as mine....
it is when you pull away from a stand still or you've been coasting in traffic.....or is it any time, at any speed and temperature?Comment

Ok i think an update is in order.
I belive i have ruled out the PCV system so have take that off the list of possibles. I also check the maf and i belive this is ok too
today I checked out the turbo, it has minimal shaft play and there was no/minimal oil within the hose I also put my finger inside the turbo and it was also dry no signs of any oil leakage , the only place i saw oil was on the wastegate seal

So to summarise , My fault is random episodes of blue smoke.
Compression seems good only cylinder 3 being slightly lower than all the other cylinders 1.155, 2.145, 3.135, 4.145, 5.150
I started the car on 3 seperate occasions today the 1st. no blue smoke at idle (cold) no blue smoke at idle (hot) and only a trace of blue smoke at 4k rpm with engine hot
2nd. no blue smoke at idle (cold) no blue smoke at idle (hot) and no blue smoke when rev'ed
3rd. no blue smoke at idle (cold) blue smoke at idle (hot) and steady stream of blue smoke when rev'ed
As you can see from the findings its a completely random formula which keeps leaving me asking the question, if the rings where gone etc wouldnt it just smoke all the time? same goes for the turbo ?NOT a car dealer! just an S2/RS2 enthusiastComment

I can think of no scenario which would cause oil to seep from the WG. Undo the 6 little nuts and pull the top off and have a look inside. The spring will push the cap off when the nuts are undone, you need to catch the spring and the perch as you lift the cap off.Comment
