what pistons are you using out of interest ? are they JE?
High oil consumption

I can confirm this...
Don't know if this high, but most of these cars with cast pistons have higher oil consumption.Comment

Reviving this thread as it's on my list of things to do over the winter. The car is still burning a lot of oil so I want to find out why and try and fix it, I've had two strokes that used less oil that this thing!!
Here's what I've done since starting the thread.
Changed all the VSOS - made no difference.
Changed brand of oil - Now using Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 - made no difference.
Done another compression check - All OK.
From the video I took, I can see that the car has a haze of grey smoke when on boost, but I've also been told that it kicks out a puff/cloud of darker smoke on high rpm gearchanges.
I'm now thinking that the breather system, although uprated, is not up to the job. This is the set up I'm using

I now want to remove the outlet at the back of the head and move it to the top of the cam cover. I want to keep the 7A cam cover but have a breather pipe a bit like the ABY. These are some that JP made recently

This will allow a greater volume to be removed without getting swamped with oil under acceleration.
Any comments or ideas welcome!sigpic

I thought about getting an ABY cam cover, but that means changing the inlet manifold, and the ABY inlet manifold does not work with the distributor

Have you thought about potential issues with your oil control rings? The top rings provide the compression therefore any issues with the oil rings wouldn't show up on compression tests. I find it hard to believe it's your breather system as I'm running 430hp on a second hand K27 with the standard 3B breather system and the car uses almost no oil. I do need to sort out the breather system but I recon I needed to top up the oil by no more than 500ml over the past 3000 miles.91 Modded 3B

I really hope not, it's used a lot of oil from day one and I've always had problems with the breather system. When I first tried to map the car it wouldn't even take 1bar of boost on the stock breather system before it was dragging oil back into the MAF-Turbo hose and drowning the MAF.Have you thought about potential issues with your oil control rings? Since upgrading the breather system this has stopped, but since the seperator drains back to the sump, I have no idea how much oil is going through the system. I might try removing the seperator and just using a catch tank to see how quickly it fills up.
I'm thinking this is a problem unique to my car down the the extra 300cc capacity of the stroker and a higher than std comp ratio?sigpic

Try a boost leak test, if you hear a lot of bubbling in the crankcase then that's air getting past the turbo seals.Comment

Sorry, but it sounds like your rings are shot and you have lots of blowby.I really hope not, it's used a lot of oil from day one and I've always had problems with the breather system. Check the small checkvalve under the manifold if you still have that.Comment

Andy, did your JE's have low tension oil rings? Was quite shocked when I google alround "low tension oil rings in street use".

Just found my order form JE and yes, they've spec'd low tension rings
http://www.jepistons.com/Products/J33228-02.8DCNF.aspx
If you read the Total Seal tech page, they say not to use low tension rings in a street car
As Alex said, I wish I researched JE a bit more before I ordered
