Mine was one of the last ABYs and had a 'paper' gasket...Comment

- Turbo dead
Well Im not sure if this is cause or effect but its certainly interesting. The wheel is siezed solid in the housing, you can see the nut that held it on inbetween the blades, just out of sight is the end of the shaft wedged further down in the turbo.
My main concern is what other damage has been caused from the debris. The intercooler had a nice pool of oil in it but no other parts removed yet.Attached FilesComment

I woulda towed it home, just in case the engine was still good and to prevent bits and pieces, or more of it being sucked into it.
Hopefully it was just the turbo

Think I may have got off lightly. All cylinders read circa 10 bar on a compression test so gasket, valves, pistons okay.
Ive removed the turbo. the turbine blades are sound but the wheel is hanging out the housing so I guess the internals are totaly FUBAR. The oil smoke exiting the exhaust is due to leaking through the turbo and it also looks like oil is seeping between the bearing and and turbine housing explaining the smoke in the engine bay.
Luckily the oil pool in the intercooler seems to have made a nice shrapnel filter for the shredded turbo.
With a bit of luck I can bolt on a GT3071R as a replacement and get back on the road no probs.Comment
