if its coming from the lower belt area sounds to me like front crank oil seal or maybe someone has left one of the oil pump bolts loose when changing the cambelt - BTDT. Both nice easy fixes

I had a little drive at 1am this morning, drove round the ring road slowly warming it up and it boosted fine! (i didn't push it but it got to 4 thou fine) so not sure what that issue was about, but obviously the little oil leak stands

Hi guys a quick update for you all!

First of all thanks for all the support on this one - really appreciated :-)

SteveH kindly had a look at it on Saturday and put my mind at ease and also enlightened me to a few things I didn't realise about the car.

I have taken it to a VW garage (that will remain nameless) and although I'm sure they're good at what they do wasn't overly happy with the way they dealt with me.

They were however able to confirm it is a power steering pump leakage from the underside of the pump, this is a shame as I have a receipt from January showing it had most of its seals and bungs replaced.

I rang the garage that carried out the work and have a great chat with the guy that actually carried out the work, he was able to tell me he replaced most of the seals except maybe one or 2 as didn't want to have to take the pump off at extra expense to the previous owner.

It's all become clear as a problem the car had recently and was probably temporarily fixed by the work in January.

I'm going to check out All Audi tomrrow for the possibility of a replacement pump. however if anyone has the 'part for the job' I would be interested in knowing!

Thanks again and any tips appreciated. I will probably take this to a garage I have used for a year now and been happy with their service to get the pump replaced as don't really want to break this car just yet! (or ever)

I have no clue why you would want to break a car because it has a leaky PS pump..

Most of the pumps fitted to these cars have been re-conditioned. When re-conned they are dipped in acid to clean them up ready for painting so they look "new". The acid gets in under the plugs and attacks the O rings so after a few weeks or months they start leaking again. It really doesn't take long to remove the pump, change the O rings (do the small ones under the brass plugs as well as the big ones under the X plugs.

While its off, ask the mech to clean the little filters in the banjo bolts as these can cause excessive pressure in the pump if blocked, leading to premature failure of the seals.

i didn't mean break the car for parts i meant break as in damage/break the car by trying to fix it... hence i'd rather a garage did it .... as the car is immaculate!

thanks for the heads up on the banjo bolts

well i've had a chat with the Audi dealership at Cribbs in Bristol - £1220 labour and fitting! I say that price... after hearing 1 thousand I stopped listening through shock haha!

I have tried 'all audi' they told me 'no chance mate' on getting a spare from them. So i'm going to try and go with getting the one i have reconditioned - which as stated ^ may not be in anyway the best way forward but as it stands until i can get another pump in better nick or that is confirmed fine is my only option really.

I'll probably have more info in about a week
