garrett 3071r turbo and stock airbox?

Has anyone fitted a garrett turbo and retained their stock aby airbox? Is there room?

Yeah easily I did it with a 3076r and an RS2 box

Check AndyP, Brams, Newsh project thread for pics for example, you have to cut of the side retaining lug that bolts to the chassis

Excellent, I should have mentioned that I am using an rs2 exhaust manifold, obviously if I was running a tubular it wouldn't fit.

I'm planning to someday upgrade to GTX3071
I love the oem looks rather than a cone airfilter.
Is the ABY airbox a direct fit on a 3B car?
Can the 3B IM be kept, I somewhere read I'd need a wagner IM?
I'd probably fit the wagner IM in the long run to get faster response on boost (correct?) but I'd postpone this upgrade to spread the costs over time.

You need to cut the lower plastic mountings beneath the airbox.
remove the steel heatshield first .fit the upper cover and slide that
metal heatshield down afterward.you also need to cut a rectangular
hole 2cmx2cm on the steel heatshield
where the notch of the compressor housing which slightly hits the heatshield.
i had tried the numerous ways when i first fitted this on my car 7yrs ago.
my car is urs6 though.it's PITA when first effort.

Yes, to clear the GT3071 on RS2 IM you cut the lower leg off the airbox to clear the coldside housing. I have a bracket made from 10mm wide strip to bolt the lower half to.
