RS2 1.9 bar, too much torque..?

    Ok guys,

I'm new to all this S2 stuff so bare with me. I've been reading threads on how to safely max out a RS2 Turbo and I've been told of the MRC 1.9 bar chip. Sounds naughty. Now on the surface this would appear to be the best setup for power on a RS2 turbo'd S2.

My question is this.. I've heard the torque is the killer of stock rods, as opposed to the BHP. As I understand it, the 1.9bar chip should be good for around 370ish BHP? If thats so then what sort of torque (ft lbs) should be expected?

And for a 60 mile daily used car with 85k on the clock, is the torque a little high? I do not want to compromise reliability at all. I'm currently on around 1.4bar and wouldn't mind some more mush tbh... Without changing my turbo I just want to know what I can (safely) get.

    Many thanks.

I had my S2 with some rs2 bits on it maped by MRC and it made 361horses, just under 500 torque at 1.4 bar. I dont think MRC are doing live maps any more but you could speak to PRJ on this forum and he can help you with the map/chips.

        Ahh I see...

If MRC are no longer offering that then I guess the only way to go would be a completely custom map. It would be a shame if MRC no longer offer that, I'll give them a ring and see what they say.

Robo- that sounds like healthy figures for 1.4 bar. I'd expect my car to give similar (at least I'd hope). So upping to 1.9 bar would surely get closer to 400lb ft?

I was just wondering if the standard rods are good for around 400ft lbs?

Bart76- that sounds like low power but the torque is through the roof?! Would you put that down to the open filter? I'd certainly be wanting over 360bhp and similar torque with the RS2 setup.

600nm is a good place to stop on stock rods, so that you don't immediately get bananas when putting 95 RON in. Either way, torque does not bend anything by itself, knock does.

Regardless, all this discussion is not very useful, since you won't be tuning your car yourself. And whoever will be doing it will (hopefully) have a good idea of what is right.
