    Cooling fan always running on RS2

    Guys,

    First post here...

    This weekend I changed the thermostat on my RS2. What is an 30 minute job on my BMW E30 M3 turned out to be 8 hellish ours on the Audi.

    Anyway, the car is running correctly now in terms of temp range (about 89 degrees). On a side note: my car was tuned by Dupré Motorsport to 380 hp and was running a thermostat with 2 holes drilled in the body. I didn't bother to do that.. (stubborn Dutch guy).

    When I started the car to top off the coolant I noticed the fan running in the low speed mode. I noticed this before, but then it was intermittently. Now it's running constantly...

    I searched the site, but I cannot seem to find out which sensor controls the fan kicking in... Where is it located?

    TIA,

    Adwo

    The reason for those 2 holes is to allow the engine to run cooler as it produces more heat now its tuned. I have done this to my car, this may be causing your running problem as it may have been mapped with lower water temps??? Or was it doing the cut off thing before you did the thermostat change??

        If the fan is running all the time, even with the engine off, it's often the connectors on the resistor pack causing problems. This is located below the windscreen washer bottle - access from below.

          Thanks for the replies!

          @audiman,

          The cut off thing was happening before the thermostat was changed. It took the car about 10 minutes to get to 70 degrees. Now it's there in 3 min. Fuel consumption is also a bit friendlier now (lambda sond and thermostat changed due to excessive fuel consumption, around 19 liter/100 km/h driving around in town)

          I know the holes are there to keep the engine a bit cooler. I will be watching the temp through the ac diagnostic on the ac controls...

          @MikeS2,

          Are these the connectors on the radiator (3 pin connector)? I cleaned all connections when I changed the thermostat...

          Thx, will check that!

            The connectors are on the resistor pack. It's a blue L shaped item about 6 inches long and it sits just below the washer bottle.

            These wires also go to the fan

              Thanks Mikes2,

              I was wondering what that blue anodized aluminium thingy was for.. It has 3 ground connectors dubbed E1 to E3 I think?!

              Cheers,
