    Problems with NGK R5671A-8 plugs..

    Hi!

Changed my sparkplugs yesterday, the engine won´t start except when I´m giving it full throttle :s

Could it be the gap that is wrong ? What gap is recommended, 0.035" ?

    Anyone using this sparkplugs ?

Are you sure that you didn't disconnect something, e.g. Throttle Position Switch or something (a ground) during your sparkplug change and then forget to reconnect it?

Yes sir I´m sure Changed back to the old platina plugs and everything worked again
What´s the stock gap on these plugs ?

What´s the symptoms of running with to small gap ?

The Bosch F5DPOR plugs are set at 0.6 mm if I remember correctly. If my math is right, 0.6 mm is 0.0236 inches (at 25.4 mm/inch) or 23.6 thousanths. On that basis, I would say running too LARGE a gap (with weakish coils) = no spark = no start?

            Going on previous experience....

You can fit any kind of spark plug on a Audi i5 20v turbo as long as they're....... Bosch F5DPOR

With the NGKs I had huge cutting out under load on my RS2 and.... I trashed them.

But the bosch iridium is just waste of money! Ran mine for 20000km and they were trash..

I will try the bcpr7es plugs.. around 20 bux for all 5 instead of 100 bux for the bosch

My bosch iridium are trash after 20000km of driving.. brand new NGK R5671A-8 with 0,5mm gap also trash - the engine won´t even start!

So I will try the NGK bcpr7es with 0,5mm gap - well see how they work

Hopefully my missfiring at idle will dissapear!

Marc S at EFI Express sells Bosch FR5DTC triple electrode sparkplugs and says that they work well on our turbo engines, even under high boost levels:

Just how long do you expect spark plugs to last? 20'KM's is a lot of sparks and a lot of heat cycle's especially on a Turbo engine.

I change mine every 10K miles as a matter of course on all my cars.

I'd also only use Bosch F5DPOR in an S2, despite the cost. If you shop round you can get them for under 50 GBP a set.

Only plugs I've had repeatedly fail are f5dpor's. I now run ngk race plugs heat range 9 gapped at 0.7mm and those have been fine on one set for 35+k miles on two engines and numerous dyno and quarter mile sessions at 500+hp

Tri electrodes work fine but are more prone to pre ignition.

Fair play, can't argue with that, you more than know your stuff when it comes to engines and tuning. Are the NGK race plugs expensive? They last very well by the sounds of it!

Out of interest what failed on the F5DPOR's?

When I said they were the only plug I use in S2's I was referring to standard or chipped cars, obviously heavily tuned engines have different requirements. I take it there'd be no problem using the NGK race plugs in a standard engine?
