2.4 bar. Stock engine. Broken metal

Well, in an attempt to take my stock bottom end/stock head RS2 to a sub 7 second 100-200kmh using 4th gear only (stock RS2 does it in approx 15sec), I increased peak boost from 2.2 bar to 2.4bar, pushing the T04E50 turbo to its max.

    The result was broken metal.
    What piece of metal broke?
The MAF wire, of course. What did you expect?

It has made around 440whp and 620nm at the wheels at 2.2bar peak. Didn't log this pull, but would probably have been right around 450whp and 640nm at the wheels, so 500 something power and 700 something torque at the flywheel, I guess. Seems to rhyme well with experience gathered at Motorgeek and elsewhere, that the stock MAF wire has a tendency to snap right around the 450whp level. Broke during the pull, not after lifting the throttle.

    Now for the replacement: Dmitri

I was expecting a snapped rod, I must admit... Goes to show the awesome build quality of the stock motor! My MAF wire went recently with 2.2 bar on a hard lift at peak boost. Now using an old one till Dmitri comes to town...

          Never visited Norway before.

Maybe a good idea to do so?

          P.S.
Espen probably would have ten consecutive orgasms after seeing my dashboard.
          Worth it for that alone.

It's a lot less impressive when it's not moving.
              Here's a video upside down a friend took http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLYrNlMpDOw, don't have a better one.

My comment was because of EspenW's obsession with numbers.

Update: can't make up my mind whether I want to throw a bigger turbo on this, or a HMF5 setup with custom map, etc, so until my mind is made up, I needed a new MAF. They cost close to £400 over here, so it wasn't too tempting to spend that for one that could easily snap again at the first WOT pull over 2 bar. Our good friend andyg plym came to the resque with a MAF for a great price, shipped swiftly across the North Sea (it actually made a detour to Romania on the way to Norway, for rather unknown reasons..). A used MAF can be a rather risky, but this one checks out perfect on Vagcom, so it was a rare specimen.
We'll see what is next for the car, would definitely be a big plus to have a MAF that reads to 600hp, as the stock one reads blind for several hundred hp on my motor. Still, the car is quicker than a slightly lighter E85 fueled 680hp S2 through all of 1st and 2nd gear and up to 150kmh when doing a pull in 3rd. The S2 makes more peak power and is faster in the interval from 150kmh to the shift point at 160kmh, but I prefer the power curve of my setup. The big turbo doesn't get the same load in the lower gears, so it won't produce nearly the same torque/power numbers in 1st and 2nd and to some extent 3rd that it pulls in 4th gear and up. This goes for all turbos, but is more pronounced the bigger the turbo is. Not just lag, but actual power/torque numbers in the lower gears.
