could be simply the wrong release bearing!

measure from the back of the block to the point of the clutch fingers and i will measure my AAN one tomorrow for you

will try to measure inside the input shaft size too

interesting to know the AAN C4 cars have been fitted with spacer and without spacer. Does this mean that the AAN dualmass flywheel / clutch setup thickness has increased / decreased over time?
I still do not understand why this should be different compared to the ABY and ADU engine setups (similar bottom-end, 01E gearbox, and always a spacer in between).

The only difference there could be is in the UrS4/S6 gearbox version of the 01E maybe. Did the automatic, 5-speed and 6-speed versions of the 01E gearbox have different external features?

Suppose the easiest thing to do is use a spacer anyway

this might cause problems with disengaging the clutch, i.e not enough travel mate

maby the thrust bearing is different, when i put my AAN in the A4 i hat to pull it in with a ratchet spanner, so took it apart and used the URS4 bearing (that was shagged) and it made a difference

                          just a thaught

                          Sean.
