Are they the same functionally, i.e. will an AAN ECU work with an ABY loom?
AAN Vs ABY ECUs?

I hope so, we have run the Rallywreck (AAN V2 Spink) on the S2 MTM ECU for testing without issue....

That's cool then, I have an AAN ecu here supplied by a forum member, we thought it was an ABY one but I checked the p/n and its actually an AAN, but as long as it works plug & play with an ABY engine loom its happy days
cheers lads

Will work fine, but watch out for "551A" AAN ECU's from the early UrS4-s which had a pseudo dizzy.
They have a 87C64 inside instead of a 87C257 boost chip. Those are a bitch to emulate, and there are few programmers that support them.
They will work fine, but a lot harder to tune, shall you want to.Comment

Uhm, "appropriate immo box"?
1. If your car does not have immo, you will need to de-immo the ECU.
2. If your car does have immo, you can use a de-immoed ECU OR you can use any immo-ed ECU after adapting it with VAG-COM. Takes about 30 seconds.
ABY and AAN ECU-s are compatible with ABY and AAN immo boxes and vice versa.
You just need to adapt the ECU to the box when doing a swap, that's all.Comment

Just read the topic title, that's all.
Was not trying to have a go at you twoqu, sorry.
Immobox is a pain in the **** anyway, easier to just get it de-immo'd, but you don't need to do this, as it's a non-immo ecu
