I was expecting it to be very arkward but i drove the old ones out with a punch that fitted in the middle of the guide and the punch's shoulders contacted the guide.

Drove the new guides in with a deep 10 mm socket the contacted with the shoulder of the new valve guides, all that was needed was a smear of oil on each. No heat or cooling required, i may have been lucky? Checked each valve in the guides for clearence and all is well.

Guides are around 3.80+vat each. Normally you'd only change exhausts. Also cool the guides and heat the head to make life easy.

I normally charge £12.50 per guide supplied old one removed new one fitted and the seat cut true to the new guide. This way when you come to lapping them in you don't have to spend 10min on each one in hope to make them seal.

It is however considered a DIY job with the correct punches/drives and patience in lapping them in.

for the record Dan, I lapped the valves in using the roughing paste with the tool in a cordless drill but when I started using the fine paste, I finished it all by hand....tedious it is but gets the right results me thinks....

good luck chap....and make sure the radio is on or something to take your mind off it!

Thanks, im sure it will be worth it in the end. Even with said blue smoke on over run it went really well around Castle Combe on sat, VW Audi driver track day.

                  Dan.
