Misfire ABY S2

Currently having some issues with the S2. It has developed a misfire, have changed plugs to NGK ones but this only seemed to make it idle badly after warming up.

Have a set of F5s on the way hopefully by friday. With the normal plugs whilst normal driving at 2k rpm or so, it drives fine, when you put your foot down, there isn't that surge of acceleration, it's as if it's running on one less cylinder then at about 5k rpm or so, you get that full boost then a misfire and back to 4 firing cylinders, it's unstable over certain rpms, I'm hoping it's just spark plugs as I have a set on the way.

Any ideas which could be at fault? Seems more like a dodgy coil to me or a clogged up injector.

That should get you a lot closer (sounds like a weak coil but it might be the MAF or a POS channel).

Sounds like faulty coil to me... Had the same symptoms myself. Although measure also the boots for the plugs and look that they fit properly.

Also to note, after starting, it idles perfectly well with no signs of problems, idling just under 1k rpms, however after 2-5 minutes once the engine heats up, it starts to idle a bit oddly, does this further point to a weak coil?

again exactly the problem i had. when i had a look one coil was completely burnt. all the wiring was brittle. replaced the lot.

Cheers Razzo, love reading about this forum, so many helpful people around. Will get to checking the coil packs once I manage to get hold of a radiator as mine currently has a leak so am refraining from using the car at the moment. (Need to get it down to the garage)

What is the suggested price for a coil pack? My local audi dealer in Malta quoted me at 164 euros which comes to about 130 sterling, does that sound about right?

yes that sounds about right, they are not cheap. might be an idea asking around the forum before going to the main dealer.

I had to rebuild all the coil pack wiring on mine after the RS2 setup precipitated a misfire. Not a nice job but worth doing if you're changing a coil, as the old wiring will be totally brittle and the insulation cracked in at least 1001 places.
