Just resurrecting this one, as I was interested as to whether I needed to replace this bolt...

Tightening torque is described in the workshop manual as (see picture):-
      • 350Nm with spanner for vibration damper
      • 450Nm without spanner for vibration damper

Stretch bolts are normally specified with a torque and then a rotation, to take the bolt past it's elastic limit and thus allow it to give a defined clamping force independent of the torque applied. As no such rotaion is given, it would seem logical that this is not being used as a stretch bolt.

Also, the manual does not state 'always replace' or 'renew' as it does for other stretch bolts (see picture).

There is also mention of a sealing paste AMV 188 001 02, any ideas?

I got two bolts in stock at 20 each if anyone is interested.

They are stretch and should be replaced.

As for the diamond coated friction washer you only change them if the coating has worn of as they are there to prevent the pulley from shearing the keyway.

How much are these washers? I'm going to need one some time soon - it sounds like its going to be a painful experience.

I cant see them being a stretch bolt, i.e. achieving plastic deformation, they are 18 mm aren't they ?

            A 10.9 18mm will take 435nm without deforming (stretch)
            and a 12.9 will take 510nm.

I thought they were 12.9 and if so they are not a stretch bolt.

I thought Paul (S2Central ) had mentioned an update to that which was something like 200Nm and 180°

JP, what do you do them up to?

If you reach the elastic limit, you're unlikely to be able to add any more torque...

The front hub through bolt is 200 + 180 deg, sure you're not talking about that?

The 200nm plus 180 deg is used as an alternative as most torque wrenches
didn't read high enough to get 450nm.
This is also what the audi tool does, it just extends the wrench so you get 450nm
with a reading of 300 or whatever on the wrench.

This is the post I was thinking about

200Nm plus 180 degrees was specified in later technical bulletins for the AAN & ABY engine but is equally applicable to 3B and RR - its the same bolt, crank & stuff.

If Audi don't state "replace the bolt" why are we replacing it?

As anybody heard of an I5 crank bolt snapping in service?

                          +1, assuming they're used on all i5 20v's?
