    on boost/under load miss fire/splutter

well, pretty much as the title says, under load, coming on boost, plant your foot, and instead of reaching mach 5, the engine miss fires and splutters, lift off the throttle and the car springs forward like it should. car in neutral and rev up the range and its fine, so only mis behaves on boost or load.

anyone got any rough ideas or a rough direction to point me in? cant go chucking money at lots of different things hoping that it will solve the problem, as my wallet appears to be getting more and more empty lol

    thanks

    matt

Lift the fault codes from the DME, that gives you a direction...

    Please report back afterwards!

You need a laptap and a connector cable to hookup to the OBD (onboard diagnostic) system..

Have a look here for an example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=7932327737

Last but not least you need a software program to be able to communicate with the DME. Most used is Vagcom...

Do a search for more information...

You don't need Vagcom to get fault codes - you can use blink codes http://www.s2central.net/blinkcodes.html It is great to have Vagcom but in the mean while see what the blink codes say!

ABY? It could be several things. I had the same problem and it turned out to be a dodgy coil. It started out as intermittent misfire under boost, but later it would misfire on idle. At high revs and little load there was no problem at all. Could also be plugs, plug connectors, power output stage or a boost leak.

hi markus. its a 3b, i am almost in the process of changing the plugs (service time) i may replace the coil if the plugs dont solve it and search for boost leaks, gonna try and do that mark h mod

                    cheers

I'm no expert on the 3b, but to my knowledge coil failures are not that common on it.

The ignition coil problems are mainly an AAN/ABY/ADU issue due to their location on top of each spark plug. Very hot in there.

I had a very bad cyl#1 spark plug wire, misfired as h*ll when reaching 0.8 bar boost and over, running fine under 0.8 bar... Replaced it and the problem vanished!

BTDT too, check all your plug leads, just above where the top of the spark plug is, the rubber usually splits.

Also, your coil lead to the dizzy, took me 3 bleedin' months to discover mine was faulty (even though it looked in good condition), did my head right in.

I'm no expert - in fact I'm totally useless - but your description sounds like what dogged me for months. It appeared to be a boost leak - but turned out to be a faulty MAF. And simple to check.
