Right today i experienced my first £1 a liter for super unleaded. So i was thinking of maybe just getting some octane booster and adding it to normal unleaded. Reading through this thread there are to many long chemical terms to get my head around so basically what do u reccomend and what are u guys using. Cheers

Any octane booster that has a good MMT content is good gear. The Millers stuff gets good reports. Some stuff isn't CAT friendly.

Although off topic , at Trax sunday a company was selling inline fuel octance boosters that suppose to catalyse the fuel from 95 to 100 ron. (some magnesium compound)
Had a couple of cars showing it in (one a ford capri) although i wasn't convinced.
Anybody heard or tried such a thing.Comment

I agree with Paul. More knock resistance is good. I've not studied MMT but i've read good things about it in this respect. You could use exotic fuels, but storage and mixing can be tricky.
I've always had good results using Silkolene Pro-boost over many years. Although i have no idea what's in it, and can't really find any information on it. Not without the use of a lab anyway.
@ Jamo - That sounds like MMT (Methylcyclopentadienyl Manganese Tricarbonyl).SSComment

I used toluene in my past urs4 a few times and it worked great. I would mix it 3 to 1 93oct to toluene and the improvements were very noticable. In fact, the night I totaled my s4 I was using toluene
. Here in the states you get it at pretty much any paint store for around $10 a gallon or you can order 5 gallons for $6 a gallon or 35 gallon drums at $4 a gallon. I might order a drum with a couple friends to use for the track

If you're worried about your health, then petrol/gasoline isn't the best thing to handle on a daily basis anyway.
Xylene (dimethylbenzene) isn't that different to toluene (methylbenzene) anyway. As you can see from the name it's molecule contains another methyl group.
I wish paint thinners were as easy to get here as in the US.SSComment

Sometimes they are easy to get, however packaging ... I found toluene in local paint store. It is in 0.5l bottles ... Okay, one litre costs less than euro, but I could not imagine buying 40 bottles just for one track day ... Also they stock something about 10 bottles only ...Originally posted by 4WheelDrifterIf you're worried about your health, then petrol/gasoline isn't the best thing to handle on a daily basis anyway.

yes yes fully aware that they're both the methyl group, chemistry is not something i want to be reminded of though thanks, came soooooo close to being a bio chemist *shudder*Originally posted by 4WheelDrifterIf you're worried about your health, then petrol/gasoline isn't the best thing to handle on a daily basis anyway.

i am bringing up an old thread but i had to ask. Lately i came across many posts in Forums and site about adding Acetone in the fuel. What do the Experts think? Someone tried it?
Any conserns about the pastic parts on the fuel tank or the fuel lines?
In what ratio could i mix Toluene (if i find some here?)
Here a VW -Vortex link about the subject-Acetone:

Just saw this old post Jamo - I actually got persuaded to try this in my old 80Sport a few years back around the time that Leaded 4 star was disappearing and LRP was coming in. They also claimed that you could use that stuff and then stick with normal unleaded IIRC. I can't say that I noticed any major improvements, but I can't say that I noticed any detrimental effects either.Although off topic , at Trax sunday a company was selling inline fuel octance boosters that suppose to catalyse the fuel from 95 to 100 ron. I can't really see how they would work to be honest.
@Billman - well acetone is another volatile solvent, so it would burn well and provide more bang, but I've no idea whether it would be any safer than toluene to the car's internals, or how much bang it would produce.
Interestingly, I've been reading that adding ethanol/ the drive to use 85% ethanol biofuel actually makes the car exhaust MORE toxic than standard petrol - all those unburnt, and partially burnt ethyl compounds are nasty!Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...

I can get my hands on acetone pretty easy.
Its used as a cleaning agent for pvc and upvc pipe.
Anyone know the coo on Acetone?? Quite frankly I don't have a clue!!
