And thank you for info Prj. So is it worth to spend 1k. On Gtx turbo when you can have holset for less then half? That is why i have asked
Well, the Holset is easily rebuildable, a lot of parts are available and so on.
From that perspective it makes sense.
However, a ball bearing turbo has better transient response, and the GTX turbos have billet wheels, which further improve that...

So the point is, if money is no object, I'd get a GTX turbo any time.
However, personally, after seeing how many problems my customers have been having in the past with the Garrett line, and how few problems my customers have been having with the Holset and KKK line, I am really not that keen on Garrett.

I don't have a 2.2T right now, but when I will, it's going to be a weekend toy anyway, and it's getting a big laggy holset turbo. Which I know will serve me for a very long time, and I just don't have to worry about a 1k+ part going pop, because I abused it a little.

I am also a strong believer into the fact, that if you have lag, you are in the wrong gear, at least until a certain turbo size, so the 100-200 rpm spoolup that I lose traded for a mega reliable turbo, that I can rebuild on my table is worth it all day.
      For others not so.

Most of Finland and Estonia run on Holset turbos
I am not sure which HX40 Super you tried, as there are many different variations.
Over here we have all of them with billet wheels by now. Makes a lot of difference to spoolup. But the HX40 Super is a big turbo. It's like running a GT35R/0.82. Pretty laggy and can make over 650hp with meth injection. You are now using a GT30R/0.63, a better comparison would be a HX35 with a billet wheel and a K26 #6 hotside.

The main issue is, that you can basically forget warranty with Garrett.
No matter what you do with it, it's always gonna be your fault. There is never a fault with the turbo... Or if you buy it from the states, you have to send it to the states, and so on.
So basically, that's why it's very popular here. Because it's a lot cheaper, and they make lots of power, and are crazy reliable.
Personally I would like to fit a VGT holset on a 2.2T and see if it is possible to control it with the N75. Or at the very least use a quick spool valve with spring preload and boost control.

          Sorry again for the hijack,

Dmitri, what other hotsides can you fit on an hx35? I could be interested if the right bits are there for future projects

          I had the 7blade hx40 with a Bullseye 0.70ar. It was horrible!

If you buy a full Holset HX35, so with a Holset T3 hotside, there is IIRC 8 and 12.
I usually get these "hybrided", well the entire turbo is Holset, just an adapter is made to fit a K26 #6 hotside. After that 10mm spacer flange on the RS2 manifold, and it fits. The water lines are not used, since they are only Oil cooled, but I have not had any problems with them.

But this turbo, is what I consider an equivalent to a 30R:
            http://www.kkdmotorsport.com/kauppa....6&k=1270835105.
These are oil and water cooled.

            The HX40 can be 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19.
Usually on the I5 application you for the 14 or 16 hotside. I don't really know how to translate that to garrett numbers... 14 and 16 seem like 0.7 and 0.9 to me.
But even then, the turbo will spool at like 4500+ RPM.
Just like a GT35R will spool at about 4600 RPM in 3rd. I think if you had a GT35R you would also find it "horrible", it's just a size too big for normal daily usage.

              Totally off topic:

I would say the 16ccm is like a 1 AR or so.
On my small stroker (2450ccm) with reclocked 7A cams and low CR, a Billet Super 40 turbo with 0.70AR turbine housing (side note: Billet on Holset means durable and not light-they have the same weight) I see 1 bar at 3800 and 1.7 at 4100.

I think what the boys are saying is right. It all depends on what each one seeks.

              @Prj

I tried the HE351VE (60/85mm compressor, 70/60 turbine VGT) with 2 manual actuators. It seemed promising but the B4 frame was too small for its dimensions. C4 frame will be great.
              Go Holset or Go RS4

A bit of topic again, so to make holset hx35 kkk26 hybrid, what need to be done to mate it together? How hard? What it is, i got a standard hx35 from some diesel engine i believe and would like to have a go if it's not a rocket science. As Prj said parts inside do not need to be balanced, so if it's only enlarging to take a bigger wheel sounds easy then..
                Or maybe not?!
