    Turbo replacement time?

Im looking at getting the turbo on my RS2 rebuilt. They are stating it will take 3 hours to take off and 3 hours to put back on. Is 6 hours a bit on the extreme side to do this job?

I guess it isnt really a DIY job?

I think that's a bit much personally. The turbo is fairly accessible on the s2/rs2.

      its a fair bit.

however if studs snap etc there may be trouble.

its a diy job for a sunday say for instance.

It shouldn't take more than 1 hour to remove. Unlikely that you will have any snapped studs unless they try taking the exhaust manifold off the head.

Yeah, sounds excessive to me. I don't think it took me longer than an hour when I did it the very first time.
If you've done this multiple times and know exactly which way to twist everything and have special bent spanners, the turbo can be off in 20 minutes.

For older cars, garages always quote labour with contingency, for, eg: bolts seizing, shearing etc. Hard to find one that would be honest enough to charge less if it was a straightforward job...

Just for a comparison, I paid to have the stock EM, turbo, injectors, MAF and boost hoses removed and RS2 goodies, i.e. exhaust manifold studs, EM, turbo, MAF, injectors and Samco's installed on my 93 S4. The charge was 6 hours total. (They had done this on a few C4 UrSs previously).

That was when I working and didn't have the time. I thought it was the best 6 hours I had ever paid for.
