Well the NA engines from let's say at least the last 5 years don't make the power the factory states. Know a guy with a S6 V10 which barely made the factory power after a custom remap...So yes tuning helps a bit
Waste of time and money.
Put that money towards some new piston rings for your engine. Will give you much better results than any kind of ECU tweaking.
And for FSI engines - the problem with those is the carbon build up.
I had the pleasure of testing a tuned version of the 4.2L V8 in the S6+ of an acquaintance. Remap, exhaust with race cats, etc. Stock power was 326ps. Tuner claimed 400ps.
It pulled 250hp at the wheels. Not impressed.
We actually saw a 5whp gain across most of the entire rev range when we replaced the K&N cone filter with the stock airbox and stock paper filter.

How is it possible to get 250HP at the wheels from tuned AHK, even ABZ has to pull 250HP at the wheels?!?!
Simple maths, factor 20% drive train loss, you get
326-20%= 260.8
so 250hp at the wheels is not very surprising as it's only a 10hp
loss from factory quoted figure, take into account these engines
don't make factory power for much more than 6 months and there you go.
My mates S8 made 259 at the wheels, factory 340 crank, now giving 323
crank.
