    Mysterious overheating/fan issue

I am at the end of my tether with this one, here are the details hopefully you guys can help me get this sorted for once.

    Replaced:
    Main Radiator
    Thermostat
    Coolant Temp Switch
    Expansion Bottle + Cap

Also tried switching around "214" relays

After the above being done,my 1st fan speed still doesn't work
Once hot, temp stays at 90+2/3 notches WITH the AC on to have fan running, temp never goes lower than 90+2 notches even with current ambient temps.
Full speed fan does kick on its on but at 3 notches over 90
    Hoses get hot

Last thing I can think of to replace is to completely rewire the loom to fan

To top things off my oil cap has got a slight white streak to it since i've been running hot temps for quite a while now....

Head gasket issue maybe??? Creamy oil cap is a sign of that.... infortunately, however you will always get mositure showing on the cap when the oil cools down from hot!

The white on the cap is ever so slight, i'm probably just being critical (I hope)

Head gasket failure wouldn't cause the fan issue though would it....?

Will try and get the chem gasket failure test done tomorrow

No it wouldnt cause the fan issue... Have you got any broken wires or a dodgy earth for it? Have you changed the sensor in the bottom of the rad for a new one? Mine was being funny til I replaced it a few months ago. (dont know what this is called)

does the airflow go through the rad properly? I drove without top and bottom shield for a while, that caused temps to be well above 90°C since most of the air bypassed the rad

Did you replace all those parts listed above with new parts or just other used ones? Do you know for sure that they all function perfectly?

Sounds like your 2nd stage fan isn't kicking in to me - the 1st stage you said kicks in with the A/C on and the 3rd stage kicks in a couple notches past 90deg - so it sounds like either you have a problem with the thermo switch, the 2nd stage relay or the wiring between the two.

I would first check continuity between pin 2 of the radiator thermo switch F18 and pin 57/85 on the 2nd stage relay - should be a green & black wire.
Failing that, work your way through the wiring and check continuity through all the circuits.

I've attached the current flow diagram that will help you

Did you checked if your temp gauge is right?

Have replaced what I believe is the coolant temp switch on bottom of rad for a new one.
All other said parts have been replaced with new parts yes

As far as I am aware the coolant temp switch is the only one that will make a difference in this scenario.

Thanks error I will get my mate to have check that stuff out with his multimeter

                Any other ideas are welcome!

Sorry error missed what you wrote.

The only speed that comes on of its own accord is main speed at 90+3 notches (and only for 10 seconds)

I have the AC on so the fan is on full to try and cool the system down, otherwise it will get to 90+3 notches and the main speed will run on its own for 10 seconds.

Are the relays in ok condition? Perhaps something is shorting after it runs since it only runs for 10 seconds as you said.

I had horrible issues with cooling, turned out that it was a faulty fan. After replacing mostly everything a new fan solved it.

Could be worth swapping in a known good fan?

Are fans expensive to replace? Is there anyone that specialize in them?

Surely the full speed (manually switched on by the AC) should bring the temperature down to 90 if left on for a while.... especially in 16degree weather

did you check the connection of the fan? those wires intend to rust/burn in the states.

Just got my mate to do a chemical head gasket test, and its gone chemical went from blue to yellow.
So pissed off but **** happens, thinking about buying a banger to get to my new job starting Monday and save up to fix it rather than make it worse
